Sorry Bruce, but you are wrong on this one. It is not discussing illegal activities, but advocating it.

Did you not read His Jollyness's post about illegal activities on this forum!

I watch these docu-dramas that shows people rolling $100 bills into small tubes for use as a device. The $100 bills are also used for trade in street corners of poor neighborhoods. My concern is both residue and germs. Prior to my departure to the Philippines, the $100 are carefully wipe on both sides with a warm cloth. The dining room table serves as a drying rack. I close the windows to prevent sudden gusts of wind. My paranoia includes images of vicious dogs wanting to bite my right cheek around the spot where my wallet is located.

An additional precaution in the Philippines is to carry a Ziploc bag either in my camera bag or brief case. You will get local currency that has been extensively used in the fresh fish market. They stink! I store them in the Ziploc bag. Children requesting for funds to pay for their next meal are delighted to receive the smelly paper. They prefer it over coins. Their smiles are bigger and their "Thank You" genuine. My experience with American panhandlers is they curse you if the donation is not sufficient. I prefer to ignore their requests.

On both occasions, I remember to wash my hands thoroughly with soap and water. If not available, I have an anti-bacterial wipe.

I looked at HSBC too as they have banks in 85 counties including Canada and  PI with ATMs in Cebu and Manila but none where I am. The city that I live in here in PI has 2 banks with 3 ATMs total for a population of more than 200,000. And there is no line up. With HSBC, you may be able to use your debit card in Cebu to get cash from your HSBC account in Canada with no fee. But only 10,000 daily. If you want to buy a house or a car, you will have to go to the ATM many times.

HSBC has branches and ATMs in Cebu and Davao as well as Manila. If you use one of its ATMs, the maximum withdrawal per transaction is Php 40,000 regardless of whether you use a local or foreign card. HSBC cards also work in Chinabank, BPI and BDO ATMs.

A man in the USA had several $100 bills that he wanted to hide at home. The only good hiding place he could think of was in the barrel of his 12 gauge shotgun which was in his locked gun cabinet, so he rolled up the bills and stuffed them in the barrel.

A few days later while he was at work his wife's brother came by and asked to borrow her husband's shotgun to go hunting. She let him borrow it, which any woman should know not to do without her husband's permission.

I'm sure you already guessed what happened.  All of his $100 bills were exchanged for one puff of smoke.

What can we learn from this?  Be very careful where you put your money because the unexpected could happen.

Thanks, Markham. It is good to know that HSBC cards can be used at BDO and BPI. I have a BDO account but I can get only 25,000 per transaction with my BDO card. I didn't think that 40G would fit from the dispenser. I once got 40G at a money changer....all in 500s....I had to put it in a Jollibee bag as it would not fit in my jeans. (Too much Jollibee=too tight jeans!)

But since then I try to bring fresh and clean bills.

Isn't that called money laundering?

SHUUUT UUUUP! Fool! Did you not read His Jollyness's post about illegal activities on this forum! :bash: Just because a Kano's money is clean and 'may' smell like Tide is not proof the money was laundered! :mocking: Maybe the Kano just does not like too many grems on his money.

A friend of yours and mine, "Buddy" always washed his pesos. Its posted here some where but anyway whats the point. Once cleaned and back into circulation it soon becomes dirty again. Say no to money laundering.   :cheersty:

Oh no! Instead of a gentle wipe with a warm cloth, I better do a more vigorous rub preparing the $100 notes before traveling.

Bob.... have you ever read anything indepth on Ben? Especially his ambassador years in Europe???? Quite the ladies man and letter writer. One of his quoted references in a letter was an observation between 'women of society' and the more common chamber maids with reference to as he put it "Partying of the buns'.... AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH :10001:
