If only I could get paid for the vast quantities of useless knowledge I possess...

There is an old saying about knowledgeable people when they die... a forrest burns......

But for some others.... a twig is alight! :hystery:

Me? I am a wealth of vast and useless knowledge! :attention:

In a 1st world country, runway and tarmac thickness ranges from 14" to 48' thick including the subgrade. In Phils, they use a different scale... Hey Jun... this look ok to you? I am tired and need to catch the San Miguel express jeepney soon.....   :mocking:

The DOTC is currently bidding out the contract for the expansion, and operations and maintenance of the MCIA.

The first phase involves the expansion of the current terminal to allow it to handle 8 million passengers a year. A second terminal will then be built to cater to another 8 million annually.  The winning bidder shall be responsible for the operation and maintenance of the new passenger terminal and the existing one for a concession period of 20 years.

Hmmm.....another bidding war?  All over the New World Order, great minds get together hashing out

their multi-million dollars feasibility studies.  Whoever won the initial builder of Mactan International was

probably the lowest bidder (read, the highest briber) with no brains about future growth.

Let me give you an example: why does a politician spend multi-million(s) peso campaign just to be a

mayor of a small village or city?  It's called kick backs.....where he has to recoup his bribery expenses

by signing contracts with an open drawer.

It's business as usual.....monkey business.

Lets not forget what happend to Manila erminal 3 and the Germans who built it and their issues to get paid.... more than 10 years later.....

When a powerful person / family sees all the money that can be made in running the airport terminal... it is government seizure time...

The way the building is being used is inefficient.

Stress of more aircraft would cause everything to collapse and sink into the ground.  You see - there's a lot more that goes into an airport than you think

The first phase involves the expansion of the current terminal

As you can see from Jakes's report this airport expansion has frig all to do with aircraft sinking into the ground.  Its the Philippines.  They are bureaucratic and disorganized.  Its more fun that way.

I don't follow your logic...?  Jake stated that the airport was probably built by the lowest bidder - which would explain the load rating of the current ramp.    You also quoted Jake in regards to the first phase being the expansion of the current terminal.  Again true - they are going to expand the current terminal and build a separate second ramp to service the expansion.  I'm not arguing that the terminal use is inefficient because it is - both through design and administration.

AH HA! So...... load calulations aside... there is some truth to my comments about changing the management to a more agreeable to work team and then start taking all planes that show up as it means more FEES!

Fees is an important word in the Pinoy dictionary...... :lmao:

Bruce, you got it right. All your comments. I flew in and out of Cebu this week and I could not believe it. So small and under-utilized at that. Between 4 and 6PM, there was 4 flights (one incoming turbo-prop and 3 others like 737s outgoing). No ramps being used. Buses on the tarmac taking people back and forth like in 1950. There are no flights after 9PM on Wednesday. The security at the door to the street knew the weekly Cathay Pacific schedule (all 5 flights). The CP office is 10ft  square with 3 staff and only open a few hours when their flights were in. Cebu is the 2nd largest city in PI, equal in population to Toronto (counting the surroundings at both). A world of difference. But.....it is the Filipino way. They get paid the same whether they are busy or not.

Not arguing over taking more flights when there is a near empty flight line...   They could take lots more flights then.

It's when it's already at peak traffic that they can't take more flights...

That was basically the point that I - and the Airport Administrators - were trying to make...  They are full between 10 am and 2 pm and are getting more demands for during that same time frame.  The rest of the time, nobody wants to schedule flights.  Anybody new coming along would have to go to those non-prime hours.

What Bruce is saying is just take anybody who shows up with the money - which means more aircraft between 10 am through 2 pm and still not much more (if any) in the other hours.  I guess they could park the overflow on the side of the street out front?
