StayAtHomeDad Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Hi, I was wondering if there are any restrictions on having prescription medicine shipped via FedEX or another courier from the U.S to the Philippines. I dont think there are, but wanted to be sure before I have them sent. Med are nothing addictive or anything - just diabetic maintenance drugs like Metformin and the like. Yes, I know you can get them here. However, I am a member of a Native American Tribe and they have a new maintenance drug program that allows me to receive maintenance drugs for my diabetes free of charge. The drugs are not super expensive her for generic versions, but if I could get branded ones for free - why not, right? The company that fills and ships the maintenance drug orders for the tirbe apparently can ship here, but I just wanted to know if there were any laws, rules, tarrifs or anything else that might make this simple-sounding program more trouble than it's worth. I mean I dont have to pay the shipping - so, if I there are no restrictions on receiving them there, I definitely want to take advantage of the program. Anybody having meds sent from overseas here regularly? If so, what have been your experiences with receiving them via FedEx or another shipper? Please advise. Thank you very much.
Bruce Posted March 1, 2013 Posted March 1, 2013 Metformin is sold there, over the counter for the asking. I pay maybe 3-5p each. If you ship via fedex, it will be examined and the receiver will get a tax bill due upon delivery. A balikbayan box may take 60-75 days, but no tax AND the total cost of the shipping of the box will be less than the fedex box you send (from the US). Send over testing supplies and buy (ebay) a stupid meter that does not record a date or lock out if the test strips are out dated... they are good for years. Send over several boxes of syringes if you need to move onto injections. If you are only going for a short period, you can carry all you need. There are rules and issues and if you look for them... they will find you. So why look? Stay away from controlled meds... That is the issue. You mentioned Tribe and shipping..... Last box I sent via FedEx from Florida was like $130+.....10 day delivery. Are they aware of that? They may think that can ship by post office, and they can, BUT you will not get your box. Planning ahead and shipping a balikbayan box is the best, lowest cost long term solution. And with all that added room in the box, you can have your family send your other things you may want.
