A lot of people are not aware that their health insurance from their  home countries may only cover them for a number of days upon arrival in the Philippines.  Always check your policy and, if you aren't sure, call your insurance company and have them provide in writing if you are covered.  I knew a young girl who went to Europe for school - her insurance company verbally told her she was covered and then, after a bad accident, her father ended up paying the whole shot for her hospital bill.  Also be aware that the cost of your policy may go up.  Mine is going to go up almost 5 times what I pay now and the hospital itself will not be covered.
