A British businessman has been shot dead in the Philippines during a robberyat his new home - just six months after moving to the country.Charles Maxwell, 61, was shot in the chest after masked robbers burst into hishome in Ubay, on the island of Bohol.According to reports he went to live with a 21-year-old girlfriend he met on theInternet while still living in Britain.Mr Maxwell lived in Frome, Somerset, for 17 years where he ran a picture framingand restoring company, before moving to Longbridge Deverill, near Warminster, in1998. Last October he moved to the Philippines, where he had a car salesbusiness and also traded in fertilisers.A police spokesman said the couple were having dinner on Sunday evening with twoother women when the robbers struck at around 7.30pm.It is thought that one woman escaped from the house to get help while the othertwo were forced at gunpoint to hand over money and valuables.A spokesman for the Foreign and Commonwealth Office said: "We can confirm thedeath of a British national in the Philippines on April 12 and we are providingconsular assistance to the next of kin."

It is always about money when these things occur. IMO, do not come to the Philippines to go into business and if you do, keep it low key and not one like a car dealer that requires big dollars to be kept on ones person, or in ones home or place of business. Now could this end up the gf as Paul has surmised, quite possible but to automatically blame it on her when no doubt large amounts of cash were involved is too early to make that assumption, at least based on this article.

You should never keep large amounts of money in your house..somebody talked about it...gf ?, maid ?.

He also had a fertilizer business, maybe it was a case of getting rid of the competition, not anything about stealing money.
