bootleultras Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 I believe the police (for once) this time as it is a tourist; I believe they really do not need this area receiving so much bad publicity at the moment with the amount of money invested in the area of late, especially if they want the new pagcor entertainment area to be a financial success, not 100% sure about this so please correct me if im wrong, but there hasnt really been that many cases of foreign TOURISTS being murdered in the Phils over the past year, its mainly involved expats or business men working here.
Forum Support Old55 Posted March 10, 2013 Forum Support Posted March 10, 2013 The local media stated the murder victim to be a tourist who knows his actual status.

Call me bubba Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 (edited) Update today 3-10-2013; http://www.philstar.com/metro/2013/03/10/917797/ncrpo-french-tourists-killing-will-be-solved MANILA, Philippines - National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) chief Director Leonardo Espina expressed confidence yesterday that the killing of a French tourist by three robbers in Pasay City Friday would be “solved in due time.” Espina said there are some “positive developments” in the case of Frenchman Hofman Pierre Paul Franz, 68, as he gave Chief Superintendent Jose Erwin Villacorte, director of the Southern Police District (SPD), “much leeway to solve the killing.” “Villacorte’s men are now in the field. We could not divulge more information we gathered for fear of jeopardizing the followup operation on the case,” said Espina in an interview. “We consider the case solved.” Espina said a computer-generated image of the man who shot Franz is based on the descriptions provided by Franz’s companions – two Frenchmen and a Filipina – and a vendor, who said Franz’s killer is approximately 30 to 35 years old, weighed 65 to 70 kilos, of medium build and fair-complexioned. He wore a black shirt and pants, they said. Earlier, Espina ordered the immediate relief of Inspector Jolly Soriano, commander of the Police Community Precinct 6, for not patrolling aggressively enough the area where Franz was slain – in front of a major hotel at the corner of EDSA and Roxas Boulevard. He also directed Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Llorca, Pasay City police chief, “not to go to sleep” :bedtime2: until Franz’s killing is solved. Thanks OLD 55 for the story update.. guess it shows even when your with other people your still at risk. Sjp52 had said even at ATMS your at HIGH RISK just a change of routine and withdraw only what you need for that day. .KNOW YOUR SURROUNDINGS. the police say that they will NOT SLEEP until its solved,,, WELL?? we know that sometimes they will say things to make the people and media happy. WE KNOW that some police here are TRUE HARD working people who do TRY,,to improve the safety of those they protect.. I hope that the people in charge(of this case) are that kind of people. ones I/we/the public can trust and look up to when we need help. bootleultras Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 (edited) Theres no one on that list murdered in the last year as was my point....bloody long list though! Mind you it is a list dating back to murders into the 80's & it doesnt state in all cases whther they were tourists or residents. Thanks for the link though, interesting stuff. :) Edited March 10, 2013 by bootleultras
Julia Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 i wonder why the hotel is not being named? never been inside the hotel but I have heard that it is one of the famous places for casino players,,, that corner is one of the red hot spots for muggers and snatchers and the like. No Filipinos would feel safe waiting for taxis in that area. i wonder why the Filipina wife didn't even bother to take some precautions in the first place...

I did a search on Google Maps. Looks like this might be the Heritage Hotel. I stayed there one night when I arrived Dec 7th, 2012! http://www.agoda.com/asia/philippines/manila/heritage_hotel.html
bootleultras Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 Julia makes a great point, I believe the hotel is indeed the Heritage, which has a Casino Filipino below. This makes me wonder if Mr Hofman was actually a guest of the hotel or had been playing in the Casino, I guess alot of people see you if youre a winner, easy to spread the word and just wait outside until hes finished playing and then attack.

I think they must have been guests at the hotel since it was early morning (8-9AM) and they were waiting for taxi to Victory Liner to take a bus to Baguio. I used that hotel for the same reason. Arrive on late flight. Stay in hotel overnight. Catch bus early next morning. Edited March 10, 2013 by earthdome

I haven't read that she was anyone's wife, the articles say she was a "companion". Perhaps she didn't know the area any better then he did. They were going to catch a bus to Baguio, he had just arrived in the country on Thurs and this apparently happened Friday morning.
