I agree with you Jake.  I too am trained to double-tap with a pistol and to short burst with an SMG -  and that is what I would do if I was carrying and needed to pull.  And for that reason I wouldn't carry even if I could.  Why?  For the same reasons you listed again.  For somebody to pull a concealed weapon and do someone else harm, they best be prepared with infallible evidence that their lives were at stake.  This ain't Kansas any more Dorothy!

Honestly, europeans & those belt bags(bum bags) always put a big target on their heads, I often cringe when I see tourists walking around Manila with them.

Belt bag, bum bag, fanny pack.... are all the same and none are 'money belts'.  As for the Inspector getting relieved, I think that is for show or this shooting was an excuse to get rid of him as that decision was already made. I am amazed at the lack of job security that PNP management has and I wonder how many get 'relieved' every year.

Off the internet you can buy special underwear with a water resistant pouch sewn in for money, an actual belt with a zipper built in for holding money, and velcro type ankle

 wraps for holding money.

Even if this guy was alive when he arrived at the hospital, unless it is a trauma center AND there is a trauma trained surgeon waiting (radio ahead) with a scalpel in hand and hemostats / artery clamps to stop the internal bleeding... he is dead anyway.

So, in the US, her cell phone / txt records of that day would be looked at and cross checked against multiple calls over a day or so to the other numbers. It does seem to be a bit more than a robber boy / snatcher style robbery, and with 3 on a bike, sounds like kids offering support to each other. Unknown yet is they are friends with the Pinay or if hired by a more organized group.

I agree that money bags are quite a stupid thing there but there is another type of money bag that is very different. You can also buy them in the Philippines. I'm sure I have bought a couple over the years at the dept store. The pouches are very light and can not be noticed like money bags. They sit UNDER your pants too so they are not visible. I have always worn these since I arrived several years back along with a normal wallet that only would have about 2,000 pesos at most in it along with non important cards or fake cards. Everything is kept in the money pouch. The only thing is it can look a bit silly if you are trying to get money out at a grocery checkout if you don't do it right :)

Or when the guards pat you down on the way into the mall and ask you to show them what that is.

Just got home from MOA tonight and on our way back home I asked our taxi driver about this incident - well in his opinion, the victim who frequently play there in the casino was indeed a target, that the shooter was actually hired to kill the victim - the motive was not known though

nothing more to say --- :36_1_50[1]:

Did the taxi driver realize that the tourist only arrived on Thursday night and this happened on the Friday morning?  Hard to be a frequent player in under 12 hours but perhaps he meant the tourist had gone in the casino one time?

This is a great suggestion and one I use as well.  I actually safety pin the silk-like material pouch inside the leg of my shorts somewhere and keep my bigger folding money there, accessing it in as private a place as I can when I need to.

During my waiting-back-home-before-my-next-trip time I collect the various fake credit cards used as promotional material by the credit card companies, empty store gift cards, etc.  I place a few of these in my throw away wallet I carry with a smaller amount of pisos (a la Adventurer) and have it a the ready should I run in to a situation and need to give it up.

The practice of having a few throwaway wallets containing fake ID and credit cards is a splendid idea.

May I throw in one more item -- a broken cell phone you're willing to donate to the hol-da-pers.

Jake... remember Ron White the comedian? Part of his stand up routine is how in Texas not only do they have a Death Penalty but have installed an EXRESS LANE. And then he goes on to talk about shooting the hol-da-pers in the back as they run away.

After one such show he was approached by a 'fan' who wanted to talk.... which is something that Ron White does not like. Anyway this fan starts saying that in Texas it is ILLEGAL(!) to shoot someone in the back. To which Mr. White replied that 'then I will shoot them in their legs until they turn around and then shoot them in the chest...."

I do like his thinking! :cheersty:

QUESTION! In the US, when a minority is shot and killed during the act of a violent crime, it is standard TV news coverage to show the family crying about how good he was and how they did not have to shoot him (??????????) and he was turning around his life and was a good boy (ok, I will stop HERE)

Is this also seen in the Philippines? I do not watch much TV here. But if a man is caught in the act of a violent crime and is shot (stabbed, folded, spindled and or mutilated), does the family accept that his own actions was the cause of his death? Or do they blame the person or police for simply protecting themselves or doing their jobs?

I am not asking for any thoughts on extra-judicial killings..... but someone killed in the act of a violent crime.
