StayAtHomeDad Posted March 10, 2013 Posted March 10, 2013 Hi guys, Like many diabetics, I am currently taking metformin to help keep my sugar levels where they need to be. However, over the last couple of months metformin doesn't seem to be getting the job done – even though I am eating much better and even losing a little weight. My doctor in the states, who also happens to me my sister-in-law, has mentioned Januvia and Janumet as possible alternatives. I consult with her often and even send her my blood sugar logs from my tests. So, she has a good idea about what's going on with my diabetes – thank God for Facebook and Skype. Therefore, I would like to ask if any of you RP residents here are taking Januvia or Janumet and buying it from a local pharmacy. I have been looking for pricing information, but have been unsuccessful – except in finding a few posts stating that the drug was indeed expensive here. So, if you are taking Januvia or Janumet, could you please post from where you are buying it as well as the cost? I lived hard and fast for many years, and it's taking its toll now. However, I have changed my diet considerably and do exercise much more than I did before - also quit the booze completely. I have read all of the typical warnings about Januvia, and read literally hundreds of patient reviews. I do realize that there are some risks involved with taking this drug. However, my sister-in-law and I both feel that it may be an adequate solution, at least in the short term for getting my blood sugar levels down again. If you have had any negative experiences of side effects of this drug, I would love to hear from you as well. As always, thanks in advance for the wealth of information I'm sure you guys will soon post here.

Hi Jd, I'm also a type 2 Diabetic, my UK doctors have me on Metformin and Gliclazide, I hadn't heard of Janumet, so I tried searching for it on Philippines generic Pharmacy but it didn't recognize the name [ I buy my meds from Generic Pharmacy], next time I'm in town I'll inquire at other high street pharmacies, as I also would like to know of alternative drugs on the Market, John Edited March 10, 2013 by johnb

I used to take Gliclazine and a couple of other "Glima" derivatives. All caused me tons of nausea and could never stray far from a bathroom. Also, I was not really crazy about the fact that Glicazide and other similar drugs force your pancreas to create way more insulin than normal. For me, I think getting my body to make better use of the insulin created naturally is a much better choice - but I do know people that swear by Glima based drugs.. I think of all the diabetes drugs, metformin is definitely the safest. Unless, you take too much all the time then you run a serious risk of lactic acidosis. As far as I am aware, there is no generic versions of Januvia or Janumet yet available. I have seen some Indian sites selling what they claim to be generics, but they are I am almost sure they are fakes. All of the reliable MD websites I have seen all state no generic versions are yet permitted or available.

StayAtHomeDad Posted March 10, 2013 Author Posted March 10, 2013 well, that supposed Indian generic MIGHT be ok. Indian drug companies are usually not bad from what I understand. Still, with there not being any generics approved by the FDA or any other such body, I dont think I wont to take a chance with this one.
