JJReyes Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 (edited) A retired couple who reside in Thailand informed me during a dinner party last night that they purchase their medical insurance through the Association of Americans Resident Overseas. I don't have additional information at this time. Someone interested in another medical insurance option may want to investigate. You have to be an overseas residents to qualify, but my understanding is coverage includes whenever you are visiting the United States. MacBubba Posted March 11, 2013 Posted March 11, 2013 I wonder if they would extend coverage to Canadians (I know the name says Americans, but just maybe...)
JJReyes Posted March 11, 2013 Author Posted March 11, 2013 I wonder if they would extend coverage to Canadians (I know the name says Americans, but just maybe...) I know the owner of a very successful Philippine business whose entire family are covered by a medical policy through Bupa International. He goes to Stanford Medical Center for his surgical procedures and the Bupa policy covers the expenses (except transportation). Bupa is suppose to provide coverage on a worldwide basis. I believe the company is HQ in Denmark.

Premiums are priced in euros. I didn't go through all the options but for my age and single coverage it's 3x more then I'm paying for local insurance. http://www.aaro.org/images/stories/insurance/2013/AARO_Premiums-2013.pdf

One of the topics for discussion is medical care for international retirees at the top tiered hospitals. My group's proposal is to charge a premium equal to Medicare Part B, which is about $105 a month. I am hoping Medical City would be interested because they have over 1,000 physicians and they are building satellite hospitals all over the Phiippines. They are even building a $200 million facility in Guam ($75 million from Philippine investors, the balance through private placements by Hong Kong based investors).
