Jollygoodfellow Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 Probably talking about the 1996 series that so many have problems exchanging due to the high number of forgeries...... Also if you have any of them bills that are marked or have them silly stamps on, you also have problems exchanging them, thats in my experiences anyway. Exactly. Also at SM they want your ID, want you to list every serial number on the bill, if a bill has a small nick forget it. I feel like a criminal with the crap they put you through. Oh, it's not just 1996 series, they have a list of years. If you say anythng they just point at the sign. I understand its a rule but they could at least be friendly, which they certainly are not. All the time it takes to jump through their hoops is kinda tough sometimes when you got an impatient baby screaming. Lets look at this, if you owned a money changing business then found half the money you recievd in a day was worthless or the banks would not accept it then I think if you decided there was no choice but to accept legal and usable notes only then they are not idiots at all. From a business perspective better to be a viable business rather than using the days cash to burn off the mosquitoes because you could not bank it. Your last line above really said what this is about. :)

If I owned a money changing shop, I would probably be more stringent than the ones I am complaining about.:)
samatm Posted March 27, 2013 Posted March 27, 2013 (edited) Many Many years ago,jus t to be cute I passed the Gaisano lady a $2 bill with an overlaid portrait of Alfred E Neuman on it. Well she didn't get the joke and pressed the secret lil red button under her counter. Store security came and when he looked at note and then at me and then at her he busted up laughing and asked me if he could buy it from me for P100. At which point to the baffled counter clerk corrected him and said it was worth something like 89 pesos only. Then we both started laughing. I later gave the guy the bill and he was much appreciative. Edited March 27, 2013 by samatm
i am bob Posted March 28, 2013 Posted March 28, 2013 Good for us ex-pats but not so good for the country. HEY BOB! You are a CANADIAN... right? have at least a passing interest in the game of HOCKY? Maybe afan og the game.... well what is that small black round thingie they slap around on the ice? Yeah, that thing..... What is it? a PUCK? OK then........ In relation to your 2nd half of the statement you make above......... Well................... P U C K them! The higher the dollar the better for us and the better for the OFW sending back money! Christ man, Jake supports 1/2 of the extended family as it is! Any better exchange rate certainly helps him..... you DO what to help Jake, now don't you.... Bob? Bruce, I would have expected you at least to recognise what I was saying... Yes, we - as expats - are going to come out ahead with a better exchange rate... And I too like this very very very much!!! At the same time, looking at it from a Filipino aspect, what was reported in the article shows that only the rich are going to get richer and the middle and poor classes will get... Well, let's just say that you, and others doing as you are, are going to see an increase in the number of poor people hoping for some help from you to survive. There are many ways for the Philippines to keep their GDP high, economy booming more than ever and still keep the exchange rate lower in order to boost tourism - and keep us expats happy - that just aren't happening. Yet. Maybe. But that isn't what the newspaper was reporting, was it? So I didn't mention it. Too political for this forum to get into. What shocked me the most was your statement about hockey - Toronto Maple Leafs just might have a good shot at Lord Stanley's Mug this year - how are your Panthers doing? Oh, you're a Tampa Bay fan instead? Yes, Bruce, you do have hockey too! Watch out for that puck!!! :mocking:

Forest steve Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Read with interest the posts on the peso,I am a new member to this site and have joined because I am moving from Thailand to the Philippines.one of the main reasons I'm moving is because of the strength of the Thai baht, there are large numbers of expats who have seen there monthly incomes almost halved since the turn of the century At present the Thai baht is 43 to the uk pound compared with 65 just 4-5 years ago this along side quite a conciderble inflation rate has made thailand a expensive place to live

What other issues do you have in Thailand that you think might be better in the Philippines?
Forest steve Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Been to Vietnam couple of times and I lived in Cambodia for 3 years. Vietnam was a nice place but the people I didn't like at all it was almost like a game with them on who could rip off the farang, Kano ( foreigner ) the most, even public transport had 2 tire pricing.Cambodia was great 10 years ago but now it's just turning into a little Thailand The Philippines if I'm honest I don't really know it's just a case of suck it and see,had some positive feedback from a friend of mine who married a girl from cubu . The visa situation is better than Thailand I think as long as you marry a local and cost of living is cheaper (according to my mate) But like I said I'm really not sure so I will just come live there for a few months and see for my self

Rent or lease-to-own before you take that marriage plunge just because you think you may save some money.... :mocking:
i am bob Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Hey Bruce! Does this mean your honeymoon is over? :mocking: Welcome to the Forum Steve! You are doing the right thing. Something will sound good, everybody tells you how fantastic it is and then you just might find out that you are better off where you are... Or not! But the only way to tell for sure it to give it a try!
