Tukaram (Tim) Posted April 12, 2013 Author Posted April 12, 2013 Matter of fact no one in the family can borrow anything until it gets paid back. That is the revolving account for the family, and it is currently being used. ha ha GREAT,very great start of "limiting" the request for the walking"TUKA RAM"atm. somewhere else in this FORUM, another member had the same principle, when JUAN 1 paid back his XXXX , then JUAN 2 can borrow X, if JUAN 1 didnt pay back , then NO ONE got anything, til it was paid/ about "medical emergency" have you thought of asking for PROOF before hand? or receipts? or if they have cell w/camera have a photo taken when at the doctor,. Now we shall see how well this works ha ha :tiphat:
Bigdog Posted April 12, 2013 Posted April 12, 2013 I liked going to the wet market alone , the haggling over price was part of the fun .. Altho I did know the correct prices before I went.. think I only ran into "kano" pricing once or twice , one was double I just laughed and went to the next vender .. and the other was about 20p/kilo over the market price, after a few exchanges I got it for the correct price..all part of the fun and after I learned some cebano to haggle with it was much easier.
Popular Post Mike S Posted April 12, 2013 Popular Post Posted April 12, 2013 Tuka Ram ...... you do exactly what we do ..... except I don't tie the whole family to one members loan and we don't let others know who borrows and who doesn't ...... helps save face that way ..... they way we work it is if Dong wants to borrow p2000 (limit is p3000 unless extenuating circumstances) ..... if Dong pays back p1000 he can draw up to p1000 .... that way you teach them to pay back what they can when they can and it makes it a bit easier for them just in case something rally does come up ..... worked very well with the asawa's sister ..... we do have one brother who still owes us money but he works overseas and he will remind us that he still owes us .... but then he is working to send 2 nephews to college and support his wife and 3 kids here ..... but like we said he can't borrow any more until that loan is paid back ...... but then he really doesn't need to ...... :hystery: :hystery: ..... we do send her mom something each month just to help her out but she has never asked for anything and of coarse when her father passed away we paid a goodly portion of the hospital and funeral but so did other family members ..... so it all works out in the end ..... I am so thankful that her family are not moochers ...... and when we do send something down like 1 gal of paint to paint the new roof (her mother paid for the roof from money she saved) ..... you would have thought we bought them a new Rolls Royce ..... never had so many thank you's ..... :hystery: :hystery: :cheersty:

She thought money grew on trees and the streets were paved with gold.

Jollygoodfellow Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I am well versed on the subject. just stand your ground. Tuka. I had a laugh to myself many years ago when my wife arrived in the states. She thought money grew on trees and the streets were paved with gold. How did that go when reality set in and your wife realized that it costs money where ever you live? Its very hard to explain to a Filipino/a that just because we may have a higher salary that does not mean we have a heap left over once all is paid. I have tried to explain it to a few and basically gave up.
Mike S Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 One thing I did was to show my asawa copies of the bills I had to pay and the insurances I was forced to buy and then compared to my salary I really didn't need to take my savings to the bank in a wheelbarrow ..... unless my car broke down and I had no other way to hitch a ride to the bank ..... :hystery: :hystery: :hystery: :cheersty:
i am bob Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 I've been hinting to my Special Someone all along how much more expensive it is to live here. When I told her how much more income tax I had to pay this year, I think she may have fainted! hehe! Ordered out for pizza? Let her know the special I got in both dollars and pesos... How much a 8 kilo bag of rice was in both dollars and pesos... I do that a lot and I think she is realizing just how expensive it is to live here. :tiphat:
