Forum Support Old55 Posted April 13, 2013 Forum Support Posted April 13, 2013 Foreigner who wed 2 women in 9 months among tell-tale cases "AMERICAN national Buddy Gayland Weaver got married twice in a span of just nine months in 2007 without submitting the required papers. This case was among the “glaring pieces of evidence” that prompted the Supreme Court (SC) to dismiss four judges in Cebu City for gross inefficiency or neglect of duty and gross ignorance of the law." The news paper piece typically headlines with an 'bad" Foreigner but lacks any facts to his situation. Is the man a polygamist? Did his first marriage end in divorce? Maybe he's muslim or Mormon? Its sad the Philippines is cursed with lack of justice at least this time those involved were dismissed from service. http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/local-news/2013/04/14/foreigner-who-wed-2-women-9-months-among-tell-tale-cases-277503
Jollygoodfellow Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 “The actions of the judges have raised a very alarming issue regarding the validity of the marriages they solemnized, since they did not follow the proper procedure or check the required documents and qualifications,” the SC said. Under the law, a marriage solemnized without a marriage license is void. Well this puts me in an unknown state. I got married by one of those judges which was arranged by a Cebu tour business at the time which is no longer operating and the owner has now fled living in Cambodia. If I remember correctly we applied for the licence but did not wait the 10 days as I had limited time in the Philippines. The date we got married is not the same as on the marriage certificate. At the time I had limited knowledge of the procedures or time so hired someone to take care of it all for me but maybe it will bite us on the bum now. :89:

You did not say if this was a bad thing or not. In 2001 I had a partner who was a notary public in Florida, where it is legal to have a notary public marry people like a judge or justice of the peace. There was a couple of hard drinkers who were deep in lust and wanted to get married. So they got the license and he married them. A year later, they hated each other with a passion! They went to get a divorce and found out that my partner, the notary public never returned the license after the marriage. So...... they never were married and a happy ending for all! As for the advice not to say anything...... does not sound good to me IF you plan on sponsoring her for OZ living. I see no legal issue for you for fraud, so if you intend to use the marriage to help you get PI residency or her to get OZ residency, the sooner you find out if there is an issue and then correct it the better.
TexasRangersFan Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 How many years and how many millions of Pesos went into this investigation only to result in a few people getting a slap on the wrist? All four Judges were dismissed from service and banned from any government job. Exactly my point. There is an older story about this. It deals with the people who were married by these judges. The penalty is very very differant it includes possible jail time. http://www.gmanetwork.com/news/story/50130/news/regions/sunstar-couples-in-cebu-wedding-scam-face-criminal-raps This is the story from the newspaper after the investigation began in 2007. Now that they have concluded their investigation who are they going to be looking at? Are the couples who were married by these judges going to get the same type of treatment?

Call me bubba Posted April 14, 2013 Posted April 14, 2013 Would this make the MARRIAGE more easily to dissolve(annul) as it was ridden w/fraud or errors not the fault of the man/woman?.. what do i mean? (sometimes i dont know either :hystery: ) i recall reading that if a marriage is done yet some issue/error occurred.like lack of parental consent. forged signature, not a "real name" that the marriage can be dissolved some where in the past DEAR PAO articles in manilatimes.net http://manilatimes.net/index.php/dear-pao/42039-marriage-without-parental-consent-may-be-annulled

No Nyet Nada marriage! BUT -yes with capitols - BUT until one or the other member of one of these marriages asks to have the marriage nulified. Then it will be stricken from the books. And at the same time the couple will then be facing jail time. In the meantime? The government will continue to consider you married. The whole thing is such a mess right now that the government will have to do something to correct the situation... Of course this is the Philippines! :mocking:
