i am bob Posted April 25, 2013 Posted April 25, 2013 One of the things I have been working on is getting off of my meds for my heart and using natural vitamins and supplements instead. I am tired of the poisons I have to take, the constant worry of bleeding out, the uncontrollable weight gain, the just plain feeling like garbage half the time! The other half of the time I feel like crap instead! Some of the replacements I will be needing are Alpha Lipoic Acid, Hawthorn, ALA, Acetyl-L-Carnatine,Valerian, Omega 3, Milk Thistle, Whey Protein and Saw Palmetto. Ok, not all of these are for my heart but they are related... hehe! Ok, the question I have is this: Can I get these things in Cebu? Obviously I don't expect anyone to run out to find a place that carries all of these things but does anyone know if there are places that would carry some of the more difficult to find items? And, should anyone already know about these, are they very expensive as compared to Canada or the US? Cheaper? Free? Thanks in advance to all!
Will Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Yes, vitamins and supplements are available here, but it's gonna cost ya an arm and a leg! I don't know the prices of individual vitamins but I was looking for some multi vitamins and said forget it when I saw the price. You may want to stock up on what you can there at home and bring them with you. I am waiting for a bb box from my wife's sister in Toronto that contains some multivitamins.
Mike S Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 Bob they have GNC stores here in just about all the bigger malls .... but I found them to be kinda on the pricy side so we go to Health Express as I take multivitamins (with out iron) which is damn hard to find here but they do carry it) ... Saw Palmetto and Sambong (sp) for kidney stones (haven't had an attack for over 3 years) .... plus one aspirin tablet each day ...... they carry a good supply of other supplements ..... I have to go there today so I'll take your list and ask them .... let you know when I get back .....

While he search and destroy, here is a website I found on GNC Philippines -- hope this helps: http://www.gnc.com.ph/products By the way, they don't have any Viagra laced with Ecstasy -- I checked already.....he, he.
i am bob Posted April 26, 2013 Author Posted April 26, 2013 Thanks guys! All the GNC stores in Canada are over-priced too - obviously I don't shop there much if at all.. hehe! I used to take Warfarin but I got to the point it was ripping out my guts and I could not stop bleeding from scratches - though my blood count from the lab said I was fine. So I got changed over to taking aspirin. One day I started vomiting blood. Not fun. I started to research the benefits of taking aspirin daily and found out something really interesting... When they tested the aspirin? They used a buffered aspirin which made it easier to hide the placebo version and got good results. But just a few years ago another trial was held and this time they did not use the buffered aspirin... And guess what did not help in case of stroke or heart attack? It turns out that, according to that study, it was even worse taking aspirin as it was screwing up the blood network around the heart. So why the difference? Buffered aspirin has magnesium in the buffered coating - and that is good for your heart. Go figure! I started to look into using magnesium instead but found something that was even more highly recommended - Hawthorn. Cheap, Convenient. And with a few others added to my daily regimen, I can stop taking Digoxin, Ramipril, Furosemide and Bisoprolol - toxins, beta-blockers and so on. By the way, Beta-blockers will make you gain weight big time as well as cause a lot of other WORSE problems. I know... The first time I had heart failure, I was loaded with Beta-blockers for the 10 days I was in the hospital. I went from a 33 inch waist to 38 inches in 10 days. My suit jacket went from 42 to 48. I looked like I was wearing shoulder pads and ready to play football. I want to be skinny and healthy again.

I"m looking at their site and I am quite impressed... I clicked on the "heart" selection and they had almost everything I was looking at except for the Hawthorn... hehe! Probably have to go into the store to get it.

There is another study done not too long ago that said about 25% of those taking 'enteric' aspirin did not get any health benifits as compared to those taking plain aspirin. Had to do with timing and location of absorbtion. Remember that aspirin may help just more than your heart. So you are damned if you do and damned if you don't! I would be suspect of the study you mentioned as it is 'steering' patients away from the cheaper plain ASA and more to a branded enteric version. Need to look at who funded thes study and why the study was done and the number of patients in the study. Due to the fact that ASA has been on the market for over 100 years and millions of people are now taking it for either pain, or heart or colon issues, AND we do NOT see people dropping dead of ASA related issues surrounding the heart, it looks as if that study may be a marketing ploy.

I have no idea what you can get in Cebu, but I suppouse they have medical herb sellers "everywhere". I don't know either if they have the plants you ask for - the vegetation in Phili is not so similar as in Canada :) - but I know they have good natural meds, which DON'T grow in Canada or Europe, against e g anemia, diabetes and high blood pressure, so I suppose they have something growing in Phili against heart problems too.
Forum Support Old55 Posted April 26, 2013 Forum Support Posted April 26, 2013 GNC at Ayala mall Cebu City has Omega 3, Milk Thistle, Whey Protein and Saw Palmetto. Those items cost more than here in the States. Keep in mind to check the use by date. I also think they may have been subjected to heat and humidity at some point. At least those items are available.
Mike S Posted April 26, 2013 Posted April 26, 2013 (edited) OK Sir Bob ..... here is what I found out from the guy in the Health Express store in Robinson here in Bacolod ..... looks like we can keep you alive a bit longer ..... but no guarantees ..... :hystery: :hystery: :hystery: :cheersty: Oh by the way the reason for multiple prices depends on the size .... so BIGGER MAYBE BETTER .... but I'll let you figure that out ..... I'm sure Kuya Jake can led a helping hand ... (sic) .... :540: :cheersty: Edited April 26, 2013 by Mike S
