Say Mike, there is a vitamin store in SM mall along the left side as you walk in near to Watson's Pharmacy. I found the prices and supplies good there. I don't recall the name nor do I have the receipt with me.

Also, guys, stay away from saw palmetto if you want to do boom-boom. Ask your lady if she wants you to take it and she will say: "Noooooooooooooo" Or ask Jake.

If you take saw palmetto, Bob will be your aunt, not your uncle.

Thanks guys!

All the GNC stores in Canada are over-priced too - obviously I don't shop there much if at all..  hehe!

I used to take Warfarin but I got to the point it was ripping out my guts and I could not stop bleeding from scratches - though my blood count from the lab said I was fine.  So I got changed over to taking aspirin.  One day I started vomiting blood.  Not fun.  I started to research the benefits of taking aspirin daily and found out something really interesting...  When they tested the aspirin?  They used a buffered aspirin which made it easier to hide the placebo version and got good results.  But just a few years ago another trial was held and this time they did not use the buffered aspirin...  And guess what did not help in case of stroke or heart attack?  It turns out that, according to that study, it was even worse taking aspirin as it was screwing up the blood network around the heart.  So why the difference?  Buffered aspirin has magnesium in the buffered coating - and that is good for your heart.  Go figure!  I started to look into using magnesium instead but found something that was even more highly recommended - Hawthorn.  Cheap, Convenient.  And with a few others added to my daily regimen, I can stop taking Digoxin, Ramipril, Furosemide and Bisoprolol - toxins, beta-blockers and so on.   By the way, Beta-blockers will make you gain weight big time as well as cause a lot of other WORSE problems.  I know...  The first time I had heart failure, I was loaded with Beta-blockers for the 10 days I was in the hospital.  I went from a 33 inch waist to 38 inches in 10 days.  My suit jacket went from 42 to 48.  I looked like I was wearing shoulder pads and ready to play football.  I want to be skinny and healthy again.

OOPS! There is another study done not too long ago that said about 25% of those taking 'enteric' aspirin did not get any health benifits as compared to those taking plain aspirin. Had to do with timing and location of absorbtion.

Remember that aspirin may help just more than your heart. So you are damned if you do and damned if you don't!

I would be suspect of the study you mentioned as it is 'steering' patients away from the cheaper plain ASA and more to a branded enteric version. Need to look at who funded thes study and why the study was done and the number of patients in the study.

Due to the fact that ASA has been on the market for over 100 years and millions of people are now taking it for either pain, or heart or colon issues, AND we do NOT see people dropping dead of ASA related issues surrounding the heart, it looks as if that study may be a marketing ploy.

Hey Bruce!

I know you work in the medical field so I do respect your opinion.  But when I started having issues with the meds I was taking, I was directed to read some studies that were done by NOT the manufacturers of these drugs but rather independent groups doing the studies that were not funded by pharmaceutical companies either.  This is where I decided to go the natural route.  Now, before somebody says what does my doctor say?  Well, It was a cardiologist who gave me copies of these studies.  One of the top cardiologists in Canada by the way.

So...  What about my health?  Am I going to keel over and die because I stopped taking my meds?  Not likely!  Without my meds, I am borderline with my heart issue as to if I have a problem or not.  So I am fairly safe exploring this avenue as long as I have constant check-ups to determine if the natural way is helping or hindering me.  Besides, it's no fun gaining 65 pounds...  Or vomiting blood uncontrollably over an 8 hour period before more meds could bring it under control ..  Or developing symptoms similar to Parkinsons from my meds...  Or....

I was under the impression that Saw  Palmetto removed testosterone from your body and thus no boom boom too!  But reading a new report the other day (and then going back to find a few more for confirmation) I found that it does not reduce your testosterone at all but blocks the part of testosterone that affects growth of the prostrate gland.  In fact, Saw Palmetto is known to reduce the Estrogen levels in some person so we can keep that nice deep manly voice while we cover our lower fronts at the beach.  As for the pharmaceuticals that are used instead?  I believe I read that FloMax was number 1 for being prescribed.  One of the side effects?  Lack of boom boom...  hehe!  In fact the 3 that the doctor recommended that I go on (I have a very slightly enlarged Prostrate that has not affected me in any way yet), all 3 have basically the same side effects.  And with no boom boom goes no using them.  Combining Saw Palmetto with Pumpkin Seeds is one of the best rated I can find for this.  As for cancer of the Prostrate?  Load up on your tomatos, guys!  Lycopene is the best known substance for the prevention of this killer.  Some studies say the tomatos have to be cooked (sauce?) while others say it makes no difference so I guess as long as we eat our apple tomato a day, we're covered!  I do wonder about that super sweet Filipino spaghetti sauce though...

hey Bob, getting of prescription chemicals can do you good I'm sure and using natural vitamins etc instead.

When I go to the Philippines I usually take a bottle of my favorite and top quality Blackmore's multivitamins Sustained release. I usually buy them after searching online for the "best price" and I can save up to 50% of normal shop prices. Ebay are also a good source. The reason why I have always used this brand as I studied vitamins in my early 20's and they had all the right doses in a mutli pill compared to my research plus they use natural ingredients. I have never found any other vitamins as good since although there might be some brands available these days that compare. I strongly believe that vitamins should be about QUALITY, not quantity or price. I would be wary of some of the products sold in the Philippines but there may be good brands but you should research any vitamins you plan to use regularly.

Also, don't forget you can get a lot of cheap and really vitamin rich fruit there, some of the tropical fruit will have vitamins that your body has been looking for all your life in them ;)

I have found that they carry most vitamins here are branded ...... I take the Miltrium Multi-vitamins (which is also sold in the US) because it contains no iron (something men over 55 should avoid ...JMHO) and that is the only brand here that I have found that contains no iron ..... but then I had someone tell me once that they only sell medicine and supplements here that are out of date in the US or considered seconds ..... I find that extreemly hard to believe as it would take way to much time and effort to restamp all the bottles with current dates or repackage them ...... but what do I know ...... I'm also not a cornflake expert ...... :mocking: :cheersty:

Excellent post Adventurer!  Your point on QUALITY is a head shot bulls eye.  Part of that word should extend

to a product that is genuine and not cut or altered.  A case in point......what about some of the drugs sold on

the street or from a major chain store, like Mercury?  I can honestly say that I don't have 100% confidence.

I would rather find a way to stock up or establish an overseas supply line of meds.  Perhaps more importantly,

a more natural way for better health is trying the abundant natural resources found in PI, such as tropical fruits,

herbs and liquids (like coconut water).

Adventurer said it best -- maybe your body was graving for it all along.

Respectfully -- Jake

I always thought the Kirkland brand supplements sold by Costco in the US were good and good prices.  I have seen booths in malls that sell them but I don't know if they are fresh.  S&R carries Kirkland, right?  Maybe they have the supplements.

In any case, they are going to be way more expensive here.  Abby likes the Kirkland Vit E and I think it is like 3x the price here.  I stocked up on everything before I left and I will probably try to keep buying in the US if possible.  The price diff alone on small items like this will pay for a BB box.
