Forum Support Old55 Posted May 12, 2013 Author Forum Support Posted May 12, 2013 During a visit a while back the local Mayors people asked my wife to vote in the place of her younger sister who was then out of the country. She refused.
Bruce Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 My partner and her Mom and Dad just were handed out 200 peso each as a token by some door to door election people and given some pamphlets. Not sure if that was vote buying or not? Clear as mud or my morning coffee. Family here is up 12,000 so far...... Still more to come!
i am bob Posted May 12, 2013 Posted May 12, 2013 (perhaps he was going to the 3day sale at the local walmart??) Impossible! There are no WallyWorlds in the Philippines! He was going to Jollybee's for spaghetti! :mocking: Seriously, even though Comelec has imposed a ban on vote buying money, the banks are all just ignoring the orders and bringing in / passing out all the cash they are asked for. I heard a radio report of one bank that was even passing out color-coded envelopes to match the political parties (for the money to be handed out).
samatm Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 (edited) My InLaw relatives are so excited by the election season that they had to return to Leyte to Vote. Seems their vote would bring in more than enough pay for their transportation and travels from Cebu . It was explained to me that the pols don't want to get cheated and they must take in a carbon paper sheet which would reveal which box was ticked to be exchanged for the gift bribe. Years back in Taiwan in an anti corruption campaign a popular sticker on everyones door frame was ... " My House (family) is not for sale " It was a popular PR campaign. PI should do something similar. It starts casting shame and guilt on those that sell out. Here it seems there is no shame and its just part of the game. Bruce Posted May 13, 2013 Posted May 13, 2013 12:40 here and I just got back from the local polling place. Maybe 1,000 people waiting to vote and they say voting stops at 3pm. No way no how will all these people get to vote. In the US, the dumbacrats would be screaming on the news and yelling about a law suit as this is all a plot by the GOP to stop 'the people' from voting..... But not here in Phils......

Why would a lowly mayor of some small town or village spend millions of pesos campaigning for a measly annual salary? Once elected, they bring in their own customized drawer or table (for under the table deals), so that every project that needs their signature for approval is sugared with all kinds of bribery. Example - a road project goes to the lowest bidder as the construction company lays down only 6" of foundation rather than 12". Hey, they need to recoup their bribery money somehow. And therefore, the never ending digging and repairing of pot holes.
