Dave Hounddriver Posted May 14, 2013 Posted May 14, 2013 My vote buying story. No searchable names here as I don't want to get involved. The incumbent governor for the province I live (not Cebu province) paid 1,000 pesos per person to vote for him and for his family members who were running for mayor in different municipalities. The challenger paid 500 pesos per person. The incumbent 'won' the election and today the stores in the nearest town are overflowing with wealthy citizens buying food and beverage with their new found wealth. One wonders what would have happened if the challenger had offered 1,500 per person or if the incumbent had 'cheaped out' and said he was paying no money this time.

Same here. I went to 5 different restaurants for lunch. Could not get in the door at Jollibee. Chicken is sold out in the local markets. I am eating fried eggs today....... Many tricycles going around with multiple sacks of rice loaded on them. The boats at the port are fully loaded for their return trips to the islands. Other than the lack of taxis and the many tricycles here, the local commercial areas look like Colon in Cebu with way too many people crowding the streets.

My InLaw relatives are so excited by the election season that they had to return to Leyte to Vote. Seems their vote would bring in more than enough pay for their transportation and travels from Cebu . It was explained to me that the pols don't want to get cheated and they must take in a carbon paper sheet which would reveal which box was ticked to be exchanged for the gift bribe. Report just in from Leyte: Pop scored with a 2000 peso windfall. Ma had 1000 taken back from because she blabbered about double voiting and one heard about it and took back the gift. Bro. came out with zero as his name wasn't on the registery. Sister 1 nad Sister 2 voted (in Lapu Lapu) without payoff. but related that they honestly didn't know anything about or who they were voting for... they just voted for anybody that wasn't a Radaza...

Bruce Posted May 15, 2013 Posted May 15, 2013 It is now 49 and 1/2 hours past the close of the election. According to COMELEC, the City of Catbalogan has reported ONLY 37% of the results. According to local sources...... MAGIC is at work now! I am not sure what that means, but use your imagination.....

Interesting and maybe very short sighted for the people. Is the incumbent a good mayor and has he provided for the needs of the people for his term? My guess it does not matter as 500 in the pocket at the time is all the people think about. My bet if the opposer offered much more then the job was his and my view is that the whole thing stinks and will never change. :bash:

Not sure he would be any better as elected. I wonder how many votes a candidate would get if he pay NOTHING to get votes :) and say: -I'm against bribes, so I will not pay any. Instead, if you elect me, I will decide what's best for you voters... The problem is so many politicians have promised things they don't follow after the election, so it's a big risk not enough voters would believe an honest candidate... sonjack2847 Posted May 18, 2013 Posted May 18, 2013 The locals where I live are comparing how much they got paid by all the candidates. Some people had as much as a weeks salary. So much for outlawing vote buying.
OnMyWay Posted May 22, 2013 Posted May 22, 2013 Today in downtown Olongapo City, there was Comelec checkpoint set up, staffed by armed and uniformed security type guys. What was that all about? :89:
