Still weighing up our options for the birth of our child and just wondering if anyone here has had any experience with South Gen Hospital at Naga Cebu.

I see they have a resident gynocologist and the location would be good for us.

Checked out Chong Hua today............man, what a minefield of regulation that place is, and that's just to get in the door. Also it's very far from where we live......we're at Carcar.

G'day Bundy. We started prenatal appts at South Gen but I wasn't impressed with the doc I had selected or the hospital she was primarily affiliated with, Miller, so I switched to a doc at Chong Hua. Had nothing to do with the South Gen facility. I was, however, very nervous because we are 2 hrs from Cebu City but when the day finally came we had plenty of time. Couldn't have started at a worse time, 1:30am Monday morning, but that's how it goes. We got to the hospital just before 4. Given your location I think South Gen is a good choice. All the best.

Thanks Mike,

The doc the missus spoke to was Fluer de Liz Senora and she was quite impressed with her so we'll see her on Tuesday.

Sounds like the perfect time, not much traffic at all to get to the hospital and probably straight in the door when you got there.  :)

A good friend of mine was impressed with the hospital at Naga until he had to stay overnight.  They asked him some questions which included:  How much is your monthly income and he told them, truthfully, 40,000 pesos.  Interestingly enough his bill on check out was 40,000 pesos, after a one night stay.  Probably just a coincidence but I would sure get some estimates to be safe and sure.

Why is it then when my wife was in hospital for thyroid cancer the bill was itemized right down to the last band aid. If your friends bill came to exactly 4oK  then the  bill should reflect that in an itemized account where one would check to see if he is getting what he is paying for.

That's not the one we had. Whoever it is should order blood screening right off without being asked. Very important to check blood sugar during pregnancy. The 2nd dr ordered a fasting blood test 1st thing the first dr never mentioned it in 2 visits.

could you share what they or the "minefield"consist of?

very good post MIKE B,

when your wife/partner is doing her pernatal.

its important that we know what is BEST for her AND our unborn child, by being PROACTIVE we can prevent or reduce unneeded.some times the doctor forgets or overlooks some of the basic care that is needed/required to have the best possible outcome for our new addition.

sometimes we must be "suggestive" in our new childs care,(prenatal)

when my partner was doing her prenatal, I took a (cant think of the word) well, I attended most of her prenatal appt, and took a interest in the care in the childs prenatal care.

the doctors was impressed that a "father to be"would attend the visits or even know some of the basic things that are needed during the "9 months",,

off topic,

1st, make sure your partner/wife has a good diet, even before "trying to conceive"

take vitamins(esp FOLIC/FOLIATE) on a regular basis to make the "womb" a very healthy environment to give the best opportunity for the child & her health

(maybe BRUCE can go more in detail )

when our partner/wife is pregnant, try hard to have a "relationship" or interaction w/the doctor.

it can make the pregnancy go more smoothly, avoids some miscommunication/misunderstanding "errors"

also in case of any "issues"by our home country"about the childs legitimacy

,we can use the doctor as a reference

a good site for the wife and babies development.1 that i "try" to refer to the locals to better themselves is

Can't speak for your wife so you'll have to answer that.  As to my friend, known as Naga Bill (three guesses why they called him that and the first two don't count) I would ask him why his Naga hospital bill was not itemized but he is dead now so will not answer me anytime soon.  I can only tell you what he told me while still alive.

I'm told you have to ASK to have your bill itemized otherwise it is one lump sum with some added costs thrown in ..... always tell them you want an itemized statement BEFORE you pay the final bill or better yet when you are admitted if your able ....... your partner can handle that if you can't ....         :cheersty:
