Trip To The Pharmacy -

We all know that here in the PI you can go pick up nearly any kind of drug without a perscription.    the perscription chit you receive from your Doc is more of  guide and written instruction just to be sure the pharmacist gets it right.     It does't carry the legal weight the chit carries in the US.    If you know what you need from a prior doctors visit and perscription you can Usually walk into any pharmacy and just ask for what you need.

So in I stroll to Rose pharmacy.    looking for bottles of asprin.  Non on the shelf.   I go to the counter.   "yes  i need some Asprin low dosage 80mg .   Pharmacist yes sir ,  may i have your perscription?      I don't have one ma'am  its only asprin.   I try to take asprin everyday like a vitamin.  " Oh but in the Philippines you must have perscription for Asprin.   "ya gotta be kidding me...."    "Geez ok so how about  10 pcs  Vicadin?" .   "yes sir thank you  no problem !"

Maybe you just got into a weirdo pharmacy as have never had that issue . Biggest issue is finding someone that knows what asprin is around here . Did have a weird experience some years ago when attempting to fill a script issued by a neurologist for a minor tremor condition . Pharmacy would not fill without me showing my passport . Seems they deemed as a narcotic when in fact it was a muscle relaxant .   :-)

Find some willow tree bark to chew, it's the same thing or so I am told. :)  I am curious about low dose aspirin. In my local grocery store in the US 100 count 80mg low dose aspirin costs about $8 and a 200 count bottle of 325mg aspirin costs $2, couldn't you just break them up?

Go to a large pharmacy and look for generic brand 80mg aspirin.

Yes, that is what I do. Break them up using a pill splitter. Big Pharma sees a demand for the low dose so they stick it to you. I have been told that aspirin doesn't stay with you long so you can't do a 325mg every 3 days for the same effect.

Another way is to buy shares in Big Pharma so that the dividends will pay for your meds.

Its very strange how you cant find Asprin sold by the bottle here.    its all individually packed.    The story above is isolated ,  i have been able to get my low dose asprin relatively trouble free from other pharmacies.    Perhaps a new memo went out or something.    Also most medical professionials here haven't been updated on the benefits of  asprin as stroke preventative.     There is concern about baby asprin --that memo is out there so perhaps that is why the pharmacist would give me the asprin.

(note:  my brother when he was 6  od'd on the lil orange flavored asprins  -  fortunately he was found in time and had his stomach pumped  and he wasn't reactive to asprin as some children are.)

Yes, I stocked up on Walgreen's house brand 80 mg before I left and it was cheap.

I have had trouble getting Aspirin until I started specifying Bayer Aspirin and the exact mg I wanted and the exact number of pills I wanted.  That or showing them an empty packet and saying I want the same.

Its frustrating because if you say you want Bayer Aspirin 350 mg they will say:  No Stock or make up something entirely different.  But once you learn that 300 mg is the standard here you know to ask for Bayer Aspirin 300 mg and they say:  How many pieces would you like?

(Then you tell them you want 100 pieces and they say:  No Stock) so you ask them how many they have and take them all.  Its not coated BTW, I have not been able to find coated Aspirins or extra strength Aspirins here.

When we lived in Cebu we found small bottles of generic aspirin in Mercury Drug store under the name Rhea ... comes in 100 tabs but it is not coated and not sure what strength but it is for adults .... still have some of my other kind left but will check when I run out .... I gave a couple of bottles away before we left Cebu as they were about to expire in 4 months and I still have 6 months to go with these ..... hope that helps  :cheersty:
