Corbin Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 Rented a beautiful House in Moalboal 100 meters from the beach and everything is ready except I will need broadband internet. Anyone have any ideas on who I should go with? Any particular carrier? Landline or wireless? Thx
Geoff Thomas Posted May 26, 2013 Posted May 26, 2013 you might struggle a bit with internet providers down there, signal not so good at best, but if you head down to Chilli Bar you will meet a lot of local guys that can tell you which is best. In fact go to Neptune diving across the road and ask what he (Jesper) is using he does a lot of on line marketing and advertising for the dive business, he is always on line. Sure he will point you in the right direction
Popular Post wingmanPI Posted September 30, 2013 Popular Post Posted September 30, 2013 (edited) I can't speak for your specific area but I had really struggled my last couple of trips with internet in subic (specifically baloy beach). The hotel i was staying at was consistently getting 0.2 mbps to 0.7 mbps down. I work when I am there so I really need 1.0 mbps or better so I can do skype etc. Anyhow I bought the pocket wifi device from smart (NOT A DONGLE) and was thrilled. Over 6 weeks I was getting 2.0 mbps+ about 80% of the time and 1.0 mbps+ the rest of the time. I believe the device is about 2,000 php and you can get 5 days unlimited for 200 php. By far one of the best purchases I have made in PI as it made my day to day life much easier. The link is below for the exact device I bought. Just another option for you guys. http://www1.smart.com.ph/Bro/products/pocket-wifi Edited September 30, 2013 by wingmanPI
i am bob Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Neat little toys, eh? What these are is a basic little WIFI router with a dongle style internet stick inside. Some brands - particularly the Huawai brand - sometimes will have a full jacketed stick inside! Open it up and take out the stick for private use... Hehe! :) Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
joeatmanila Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 I do have the PLDT 3mbps plan, the modem it's self is a wireless router at no extra cost and very good one. a house of 3 floors about 300m2 and I have internet everywhere. Very happy with it. I have not tried the others.

Tukaram (Tim) Posted October 2, 2013 Posted October 2, 2013 It really depends on your area. I tried the Tattoo dongle, and the Pocket Wifi and neither one could get a good enough signal here to work. PLDT wouldn't even come to the house. And finally Globe put a tower across the street and now I use WiMax, a wireless modem. It is slow but functional. I am only 16 kilometers out of Iloilo. Doesn't seem very far to me but they all say "way out there" like I am luck y to get a signal at all. Talk to your neighbors and see what they use...

I do not have much experience with them but I know a few guys that have set them up and it increased their speed quite a bit. I think the set up can get a bit techy but if you get with someone that has done it then it can be done.

Lot of fun - not very productive...
gaga4 Posted December 16, 2013 Posted December 16, 2013 Right now I am very frustrated with Globe. We subscribed to their 4g service where we are supposed to get "up to 15mbps". So far I have not seen anything more than 1.2 mbps (speedtest.net). I am not a happy camper and feel deceived by Globe. They should not be stating those speeds since they fully well know you cannot get anywhere near them. Until this is resolved I do not recommend them as a carrier.
