Regards Bill Davis From what i have read over the last few years in forums about the Philippines, Insurance is a hit or miss ( some times they cover you and some times they don,t ) and is very expensive. Living here on $800 a month means you will be just getting by and that is only if you stay healthy. Personally I would not attempt it. You don,t have family to fall back on or soup kitchens or goodwills that would help if you ran into problems. But saying that there are people here that are doing it, But I hope they have enough money for a plane ticket back home if they fall into hard times. One option is Phil Health which is cheap ( 2400 pesos a year for a family ) but it only covers any where from 15 to 35 %.
JJReyes Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 I wish the USA would let me have my MEDICARE Insurance if I were living in the Philippines . If you are former military, your TriCare insurance is accepted by medical clinics and hospitals that have been pre-approved through the US Embassy (Manila). If you are a resident of Guam, your Medicare insurance is accepted. I do NOT think I could live a good life in the Philippines on just $800 Dollars per month ,, BECAUSE I would want Aircon 24/7 and Cabel TV 24/7 Plus a nice 2 Bed 2 Bath Apartment or home ,, good food and maybe a Housekeeper . May I ask what part of the United States do you reside with a nice 2B/2BA apartment or home, housekeeper, 24/7 air conditioners and/or heater, 24/7 cable television for $800 a month? BILL DAVIS Posted June 21, 2013 Author Posted June 21, 2013 Hello JJ ; I live in San Marcos , California in a 2 Bed 1 Bath Mobilehome with a BIG 800sq.ft. of living space  And my wife is my Care Giver and that is how we can afford to live here in USA ,, but there is NO !! Guarantee that her Job will last much longer and also I have seen reports on the Internet that our Government MIGHT start to LOWER Social Security payment by 2014 and that by 2033 there will not be any Social Security nor Medicare because those funds might be BROKE by 2033 . :boohoo: So I am always THINKING that MAYBE !! Cebu might be a better way to live on just $800 per month ? But I would need to Buy a really good Medical Insurance that would pay all Doctors and Hospital costs and all costs for Drugs . But I have no Idea how much that would cost . ?????? Regards Bill
MikeB Posted June 21, 2013 Posted June 21, 2013 But I would need to Buy a really good Medical Insurance that would pay all Doctors and Hospital costs and all costs for Drugs . The cost for insurance depends upon your age and a great number of options. Google "medical insurance philippines" and you will see many choices. Blue Cross Philippines is probably the biggest but any of them can deny your claim if it's a preexisting condition. Medical insurance and hospital care are, in general, much cheaper then in the US but I wouldn't try to live on $800 a month for 1 person let alone 2. I will drive through San Marcos to have a quick look this coming September. We are driving from La Jolla to Torrance, and thereafter to several national parks (Sequoia, Kings Canyon, Yosemite, Death Valley) as part of our annual holiday. There is a Fil-Am group lobbying the US Congress to make Medicare portable. It's a long shot. You and your wife may want to sign the online petition drive. Yes. I just sign an AARP members petition asking the US Congress and Obama administration not decrease Social Security benefits. The plan is to change how inflation is calculate. Lifetime reduction per person is about $14,000 should they change the formula. Medicare will change. The states are already changing Medicaid, making it difficult to claim "poverty" by spending down your assets if you have Alzheimer's or a long-term illness. Interesting that your wife is a caregiver. Our strategy is to relocate to the Philippine if either my wife or I require care services. We can't afford USA prices. $800 is unrealistic for the Philippines.
