Bruce Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Off thereligionofpeace.com Any members living in these areas know anything more? PHILIPPINES: Christians Forced to Flee Homes By News on the Net (Bio and Archives) Thursday, June 13, 2013 Source: The Voice of the Martyrs USA On June 1st, approximately 160 Christians were forced to flee their villages after they were attacked by Muslim extremists. The villages of Malipayon, Saban of Barnagay, Maybula and New Bunawan were attacked at about 9 a.m. that Saturday. An estimated 300 armed men fired more than five mortars in an attempt to cause harm to the unsuspecting residents of these communities. The Christians who fled the attacks are now in need of food, mosquito nets, bed sheets, sleeping mats and medicine. Many have become ill because they weren’t able to take their bedding or medications with them while fleeing the attacks. These persecuted Christians are currently unable to return to their villages because they fear the militant Muslims will kill them and burn down their homes. VOM has provided these suffering believers basic necessities such as food, mosquito nets, blankets and medicine. For more information on the difficulties facing persecuted Christians in the Philippines, go to the Philippines Country Report.
JJReyes Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 Bruce, where do I send my check? Or does this organization require cash only sent to a P.O. Box?
Bruce Posted June 27, 2013 Author Posted June 27, 2013 Bruce, where do I send my check? Or does this organization require cash only sent to a P.O. Box? I do not know. Here is the link to the actual article http://canadafreepress.com/index.php/article/55899 which was recast on thereligionofpeace.com. If you have the time, and want to do some reading, the site thereligionofpeace.com is updated daily and shows 'interesting' news articles from around the world. You know (not kidding) the usual everyday acid attacks on women, genital mulitation of young girls, christians being killed for refusing to convert to islam.... you know normal everyday kind of things that catholics simply do not do! So, either that link to the Canada news site with the original article (hey Bob!) or on thereligionofpeace.com site and scroll down the column on the right side of the screen. Look for the Filipino article. I am really dismayed about this attack. So far, the Philippines, even on Mindanao, the attacks done by muslims were not really on this mass scale. In the past was private disputes or kidnappings for profit. But this attack changes the playing field. Like similar attacks in Egypt and Turkey as well as other areas of the middle east, Christanity is under attack with fires and jailings and murder / rapes on a large scale. While I am a card carrying atheist, I am not an atheist activist suing to end christmas et al. I was born and raised in the US and culturally, can identlfy with 'mainstream' christians and jews. If you go to a church or a synogogue, I really do not care. I am am going to Dunkin Donuts for my devotional :hystery: and we can all catch up later.... And NO ONE is killed! Sadly, I think that with this latest attack, the reality of radicals coming up from Malaysia into Mindanao and working their way up to the top of the island can not be ignored. Perhaps in the future there really will be a separate nation created as the violence grows and catholic residents start to flee to their relatives on the northern islands. No longer is this a 'white tourist' watch out situation. It has grown into Pinoy against Pinoy situation. As time marches on, the more radical people have a growing impression on the younger kids and by the time those kids are adults and have their own kids, the violence will not only be open and tolerated, but more of a 'they deserved it' because they are not muslim. Wow! Did I pick a bad time to vacation / move to / retire in The Philippines or what! :th_unfair:
JJReyes Posted June 27, 2013 Posted June 27, 2013 I was only kidding. The subject of religious conflict and warfare is something to avoid. Politics is the other one. I immediately switch channel when they have a politician on the screen. So how's the weather in Florida? Has the rainy season started in the Philippines? It is still very cool in Hawaii even with the approach of summer.

I did some internet searches and could not find one single story about this which includes sources for this news which did not come from a christian or anti-muslim website. I am not saying it didn't happen, just saying that there isn't a whole lot backing up this story. This also sounds like a story designed to drive fund raising for an organization with an agenda.

Hey guys, Hmm......berry interesting. I also visited Voice of Martyrs and did their internal search for "extremist, philippines" and came up zero. But it's safe to assume that it does happen worldwide. Ever since man has carried a weapon of persuasion, you either convert or die by the sword. Different religions had their own private army throughout the history of man. And unfortunately, each one has their own agenda, including the use of propaganda. My comments above is spoken in general terms, not specifying a church or belief. Please guys, we don't want this thread to go any deeper. Further comments about faith or no faith; muslims vs christians, etc, etc simply will not be tolerated here. It's just too hot of a topic where my fellow members might pull out their own sword of arguments. And the whole forum takes a nose dive...... Thank you for your understanding, respectfully -- Jake Edited June 28, 2013 by Jake sentence structure

Thank you for your understanding, respectfully -- Jake My point is that you can't believe everything you find on the internet. In this case there is absolutely no way to confirm this story is true. It is based solely on the claims of the website which originated the story... that one of their people in country reported this back to them. That is pretty darn slim evidence. Especially since the organization reporting it claims to be helping these people... and oh by the way... they solicite millions of dollars in donations every year. This story also goes against other recent news of successful peace negotiations between the larger muslim group in that area an the philippine government. I call BS on the story. You are welcome to prove me wrong, then I will happily eat crow.
Bruce Posted June 28, 2013 Author Posted June 28, 2013 As usual, when you need Bob he is no where around. Hope he is not still treading water in the Canadian floods. But, since the original article was off a Canadian news service, perhaps they have a source and verification of it. Further, this story, if true, raises more questions about what land the Christians were on and if squatters or owners, what happened to their land......... I will do some checking with the polite Americans north of the border......

The canadian website was just reprinting what VOM posted, which was based on a report from one of their volunteers in the Philippines without verification from any other source.
