jpbago Posted October 1, 2013 Posted October 1, 2013 Bacolod is going International! Starting in December, Bacolod-Silay Airport will be international with 17 flights from Korea. I don't know if it is 17 per week, per month, or per year. For some people, they may go from where ever to Korea then to Bacolod bypassing Manila. Plus they are talking of re-opening the old airport (as long as they can bypass the Sugarland Hotel.) PAL landed on top of the hotel years ago.
Call me bubba Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 a few weeks ago ,a Bus accident killed many people and this bus line was temporary shut down now the LTFRB has closed this bus line down, hopefully for good. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has cancelled the seven franchises for the entire 78-unit fleet of the Don Mariano Bus Transit, whose killer bus plunged from the Skyway in Parañaque City on December 16, 2013, killing 20 people and hurting several others. “The franchise [of Don Mariano Bus Transit] for its 78 units of buses is hereby cancelled, revoked and confiscated back in favor of the state,” said LTFRB chairman Winston Ginez who read the board’s decision that will be released on January 16, the end of a 30-day suspension imposed on the bus firm for numerous violations. Ginez added that the franchise includes the buses’ routes from Novaliches to Baclaran and to Pacita in San Pedro, Laguna. He assured the public that Don Mariano Transit will never operate again due to a moratorium in issuing new franchises even if the bus firm will change its name. “Don Mariano Transit Corp. not only failed to be diligent in the selection of its drivers and undertake the necessary drastic action after a series of accidents and suspensions, but it was likewise remiss in providing and maintaining its services which are safe, proper and adequate for the benefit of the public at large,” Ginez said. A source from the board told The Manila Times that the plates of all the buses that have been confiscated will be destroyed. After all legal procedures have been exhausted, the bus units can be sold to other bus operators by the owners. “They can be sold as the ownership was not closed. We will monitor the sale and buyers will be scrutinized. They have a responsibility as public transportation owners,” Ginez explained. He stressed that the board has found out that the Don Mariano Bus firm has been cited for several violations ranging from its non-road worthiness to malfunctions. “Three incidents have merited suspension but they continue to fail to resolve the cited violations,” Ginez said. Jason Cantil, legal counsel of the bus firm, said they will file a motion for reconsideration because many workers will lose their jobs if the LTFRB decision is implemented. Cantil added that the families of 18 passengers who died in the Skyway accident have chosen amicable settlement. Records at the LTFRB listed Don Mariano Transit as the bus firm with the most violations. Aside from the Skyway accident, the company also committed several violations of the franchise, including the unauthorized transfer of chassis of buses to other vehicles without the permission of the LFTRB or the Land Transportation Office. In May last year, passengers were robbed at gunpoint inside a Don Mariano Transit bus and one commuter was killed. In July last year, one of its buses nearly flew over the railing of the Ortigas flyover on the southbound lane of EDSA. The bus driver later claimed a motorcycle had appeared from nowhere, causing him to swerve. But bus passengers insisted the bus driver was reading text messages while driving. In August last year, another Don Mariano Transit bus plying the Magallanes flyover was involved in an accident with a motorcycle, whose driver was killed. The LTFRB had placed the Don Mariano Transit on top of the list of most dangerous bus operators based on damage to property. With reports from Jaime R. Pilapil and Francis Earl A. Call me bubba Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 Airport worker JONY VILLON finds $4800 and returns to the rightful owner this is another "good news" article of 1 who does the right thing. :AddEmoticons04230: what i cant understand is why would 1 carry so much money on their person, why not keep it on them, like a fanny pack or inside pocket. at least the money was found and returned, A baggage porter at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 1 (NAIA 1) returned $4,800 or more than P210,000 in cash to its rightful owner Wednesday, authorities said. Despite his financial needs, porter Jony Villon said he did not think twice about turning over to NAIA authorities a blue transparent envelope he found in a baggage cart, which was left behind by a returning overseas Filipino worker. Villon, who has been working as a NAIA porter for the past three years, told authorities that he found the envelope as he was retrieving baggage carts. In an interview with ABS-CBN News, Villon said he immediately informed his superiors of his discovery, and took the envelope to the airport's lost and found section. At the same time, OFW Cristina Alcaraz Rosal, accompanied by one Jayvee Estorgo, made a report about the lost envelope to airport officials. As standard operating procedure, airport authoritiesconducted an inventory in front of the owner to check the envelope's contents, which were 48 pieces of $100 bills. According to Villon, he felt relieved that the money was returned to its owner, saying he was not tempted to keep the money for his own use. Villon, also a former OFW from Israel, said he understood how valuable an OFW's earnings are. "Alam ko po ang hirap ng isang OFW, kung kaya hindi ko naisip na ibulsa yung napulot ko," Villon, breadwinner of his family, said. He earns P12,000 a month as a baggage porter. Rosal, meanwhile, said she is very thankful for the exemplary honesty of Villon. - http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/metro-manila/01/29/14/honest-naia-porter-returns-4800

Forty-six-year-old Rodolfo Bernal, Jr. was doing the rounds to gather used pushcarts at the arrival area on Wednesday night, when he found a gray plastic pouch left on one of the carts at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport terminal 1 arrival driveway. Bernal thought that the pouch contained valuable items, immediately met his supervisor, Andro Laxina, who later advised the porter to turn it over to the lost and found section. The pouch contained 2,400 Australian dollars, an Australian passport and an HSBC online security device as well as assorted documents that belonged to 21-year-old Koby Edward Max Griffiths, who travelled to Manila with his father. Two hours later, a frenzied Griffiths appeared at the lost and found section of the airport and was surprised to see his belongings intact. Griffiths’ father was grateful that his son’s personal savings had been returned . “So nice to know that there are honest people around here,” he said. Bernal joined the list of honest porters this year, after Jony Villon who returned an envelope containing US$4,800 he recovered at the NAIA parking area last week.
