Narsicun Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 My first trip to the Philippines back in 1999 consisted of the following events occurring and being forever engraved into my memory. 1. 39 hour 'jet-lag' sleep. 2. First trip in a trike....cut my shin squeezing into it. 3. First trip in a jeepney....cut my hand crawling out of it. 4. First time taking a short vid at Kokomo's....2 douchebags snatched the cam from my hand. 5. Got an upper respiratory infection. 6. First time getting hammered.....3 ladyboys waylaid me (escorted me to my room) in front of Pacific Breeze Hotel. 7. First time passing out in a bar (Insomnia I think)...woke up with a mysterious white creamy substance on my chin....hmmmm, I don't like to think about it. 8. First time (and last time) I celebrated my birthday there (at Pink Flamingo...it's gone now isn't it?).....tied to a chair on stage, stripped naked, made to sit there while 3 khatoeys did some sort of fan dance and gave me a blowjob (the drink you pervs). Lucky or unlucky? What do you think? The result of this horrendous ordeal....I go every year, sometimes twice a year for a few months and am working on living there. Don't tell us... but it was the ladyboys and then the chin thing that got you hooked on living in the Philippines... RIght? :hystery: Perhaps you might think of giving up alcohol? Just a thought. You also took the wrong flight. Fly PAL. (1 flight not PAL) Penn to LAX, 6 hrs, (1 flight PAL) LAX to Manila 17 hrs. Layover at LAX 3-4 hrs. You went the long route......... Arrives at 6:55 am Manila time and then if you want to fly out not too long to wait. Fly 'the other guys' and you arrive in Manila at 1am and sleep in the airport..... Other than that change your name to Calamity Joe! :tiphat: (Insert Jake's warning on posting graphic sexually themed posts HERE)

Narsicun Posted July 23, 2013 Author Posted July 23, 2013 Let me be a little more specific about "1. 39 hour "jet-lag" sleep". My trip actually took between 25-27 hours as per the flight plan you suggested, Pa-LAX-(PAL) Man and I did arrive a little after 7 am. Hit the Wild Orchid hotel in AC around 9 am. Bought a cel and some loads, grabbed some food, contacted a few people and made meeting arrangments, swam, showered and headed out for a bar hop that lasted til 6am, went back to my room and took a 3 hour nap. Swam, showered, ate, souvenier shopped, swam some more, showered and went out again for another bar hop and hit the sack finally around 3 am for a proper sleep and woke up about 6 pm the next day. In short, arrived Mon 7 am, went to bed for a proper sleep 3 am Wed and woke up around 6 pm Thu night, that's 39 hours of sleep due to jet-lag. I suppose its possible that all that boozing could of contributed a small bit :D PAL always announces a 1 hour layover in Guam after we leave LAX for re-fueling, in all these years of flying over to PI, they have yet to do the layover, I'm starting to wander if this "over-sight" could potentially become #9 on my list....hmmm. Meh, the white creamy substance turned out to be whipped cream someone dabbed on my chin and took a pic of for nefarious reasons.
jpbago Posted July 23, 2013 Posted July 23, 2013 It is OK to have those events 1 to 8 as a first time, but, if you are continuing to have them, then you got to wonder. You have came here 20 times since 99. Tell us some more stories. Some of us lead a quiet life but we like to hear stories. You must have some good advice. I can relate to 2, 3, and 5.
Bruce Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Hit the Wild Orchid hotel in AC around 9 am I sent you a PM. Look up at the top near your name to see it. Click on it.
Dave Hounddriver Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 Not sure if it is good luck or bad luck for you, but judging from the replies I see it is bad luck for a few of our members that you feel obligated to share your mongering experiences here.

The layover for fuel is determined by the load of the plane. If the plane is full, then a fuel stop is made. If there is a less than full flight, and I do not know the actual weight limits used to determine a fuel stop or not, there is no stop. Of my 10 flights to phils, we have stopped for fuel 8 times. 7 in Guam and 1 time in Hawaii. Flying over is a different route then flying back to LAX. Also jet stream is helping on the way back while slowing the plane on the way to Phils. So the return flight is about 13 hours, as compared to the about 17 hours (with refuel stop) going to Phils.
Markham Posted July 24, 2013 Posted July 24, 2013 I believe PAL is now using 777-300ER aircraft on the Manila - LA flight which is capable of making that journey non-stop with ease.
