Jollygoodfellow Posted March 7, 2014 Author Posted March 7, 2014 Just another Singh day. Indian national shot dead in the Philippines Updated: March 06, 2014 20:31 IST Manila: An Indian businessman has been shot dead in the Philippines by two unidentified gunmen, the third such incident in less than three months involving Indian nationals. Iqbal Singh, 27, was shot dead when he was heading towards his apartment in Lumangbayan in Calapan city of Oriental Mindoro province on Tuesday, the Inquirer reported yesterday. Singh, who was single and a resident of the city for the past eight years, died on the spot after being shot by the motorcycle-borne assailants. Police suspect that Singh could have been murdered over some disputes related to his money-lending business. "Both gunmen wore black jackets but the motorcycle driver was wearing a helmet while the pillion rider wore a bonnet," a police officer was quoted as saying. In January, an Indian was shot dead while another was wounded in a similar incident. A few days later, another Indian was killed in a western Philippines city. http://www.ndtv.com/article/diaspora/indian-national-shot-dead-in-the-philippines-492414?curl=1394201118
Mike S Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Hummmmm .... could it be a new way to deal with those that don't file their annual report .... they did say that there would be stringent measures take to find these individuals and as only 68,000 some out of 230,000 have indeed filed I'd be looking over my shoulder especially if my name was Singh ..... :mocking: :cheersty:

Jollygoodfellow Posted June 2, 2014 Author Posted June 2, 2014 When in India, how does the postman get on if everyone has the same name? Anyway more shot. Punjabi Money Lenders In Philippines Continued To Be Gunned Down At Time Of Collection MANILA – Another Punjabi-origin man in Philippines was gunned down, although he only suffered seriously injuries after unidentified motorcycle-borne gunmen shot at him, becoming the second victim this month, according to a media report. Amandeep Singh, 28, was shot in the head by unknown gunmen while he was collecting money he lent out to a store owner in Zamboanga city in southern Philippines, Mindanao Examiner reported. A medical response team took Singh to the hospital, police said, adding a bullet casing of a .45-caliber pistol was recovered from the scene. The motive of the attack is still unknown, but Singh was the second Indian shot in two weeks in Zamboanga, notorious for its unabated gun attacks blamed on hired killers. Motorcycle gunmen also shot Sukhjinder Singh, 28, while he was driving his motorcycle in the village of Putik on May 8. He was rushed to hospital, but died during an operation from wounds in the head and body, the report said. Singh, who was also engaged in money lending, had come from his cousin’s house and was heading home, when the attack occurred. http://thelinkpaper.ca/?p=38081
Jollygoodfellow Posted June 18, 2014 Author Posted June 18, 2014 And another Singh bites the dust :9436: Indian Man Shot Dead in Philippines by Motorcycle Thieves Manila: A 28-year-old Indian man in the Philippines, engaged in money-lending, has been killed after unidentified gunmen opened fire at him, becoming the third Indian to fall victim to armed thieves. Surinder Singh was shot dead yesterday as he was on his way to collect money from his debtors in Kabacan of North Cotabato province, the Inquirer online reported today. Police quoting witnesses said that gunmen shot dead Singh using a .45 caliber pistol and then fled from the scene on his motorcycle. "We are looking into motorcycle theft as the motive behind the killing, since the suspects only carted away his motorcycle. His personal belongings, as well as his daily collections were intact," Superintendent Jordaine Maribojo, Kabacan town police chief, said. Since January, four people - including three Indians - have fallen victim to armed motorcycle thieves, who have no qualms about harming their victims. On May 8, gunmen shot another Indian while he was driving his motorcycle in the village. He was rushed to hospital, but died during an operation from wounds in the head and body. Another Indian man was seriously injured after unidentified motorcycle-borne gunmen shot at him on May 24. http://www.ndtv.com/article/diaspora/indian-man-shot-dead-in-philippines-by-motorcycle-thieves-543871

Jollygoodfellow Posted May 7, 2015 Author Posted May 7, 2015 Less Singh's once again in the Philippines. Over a 100 money lenders killed in 3 years and probably all named Singh. :9436: 2 Punjabi moneylenders killed in Philippines in a week The highly lucrative money lending business in Philippines has claimed the lives of two more Punjabis in the past one week, raising questions about the safety of Indians involved in the trade. Jaspinder Pal Singh Chohan, who was the president of the gurdwara in Bulacan, was gunned down by some unidentified assailants on Tuesday in front of a bank when he was sitting in his car after withdrawing money. Chohan, who was from Khurla Kingra village near Jalandhar, had been living in Philippines for the past several years along with his family. Sources close to the family said he was involved in moneylending business and his two brothers and a sister live in the US. Last week, Chohan's cousin Jaspal Singh Bhatti, also a moneylender, was killed in the same city. Another Punjabi moneylender was kidnapped in Cavite city around 10 days ago, but his family has not received any ransom call. Sources among Punjabis settled in Philippines said another community member was abducted in Cavite a month ago and the man was released after paying ransom. For the past decade or so, scores of Punjabi moneylenders were killed in Philippines and several others abducted. Most of the community members there are working as moneylenders. The moneylending business in Philippines attracts many Indians, especially Punjabis, to the island nation. Punjabis earn handsomely in the lending business known as micro financing. Money lending is popularly referred to as '5-6' in Philippines. When a man borrows 5 pesos, he has to pay back 6 pesos. Minimum borrowing amount for a month is 500 pesos, for which a debtor has to return 600 pesos after 30 days. According to sources, higher profits in moneylending business have also increased the risk for creditors. Sources said since many Punjabis are involved in the business and have earned handsomely, this has given rise to hate crimes against them. Sources added that over 100 Punjabis in moneylending business were killed in Philippines in the past three years. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chandigarh/2-Punjabi-moneylenders-killed-in-Philippines-in-a-week/articleshow/47181435.cms

Thomas Posted May 7, 2015 Posted May 7, 2015 Less Singh's once again in the Philippines. Over a 100 money lenders killed in 3 years and probably all named Singh. :9436: Yes, there are many such. I know of ONE exception, a Swede, BUT unclear if he was killed because of his high interest lending business or if it depended of a love affair. He was killed at home in difference from (most/all ?) others. Isn't lending business ILLEGAL for foreigners anyway? I believe I have read that in some lawwebsite/law.
