Jollygoodfellow Posted August 5, 2015 Author Posted August 5, 2015 Oh no, Singh again. 100 of them killed in the last 3 years JALANDHAR: A 22-year-old Punjabi youth was shot dead in Manila, Philippines, on Monday night. According to family sources here, Jasmeet Singh had gone out with his friend James when they were attacked by five armed assailants and both were killed. Jasmeet's mother Pardeep Kaur, living here in Jagatpura area, said her husband Jaswant Singh had gone to the Philippines around 15 years ago and was into money lending business. Family sources said Jasmeet had joined his father in Philippines a few years ago and was studying there. He was away to US on a study tour when his father slipped into coma and he returned to Manila. His family demanded that the Centre should help them to bring the youth's body and shift his father here so that the latter's treatment could be continued here. A few days ago Kulpal Singh, hailing from Dhanaula Khurd, was also killed in the Philippines. He was president of a gurdwara in a town neighbouring Manila. According to sources, higher profits in moneylending business have also increased the risk for creditors. Sources said since many Punjabis are involved in the business and have earned handsomely, this has given rise to hate crimes against them. Sources added that over 100 Punjabis in moneylending business were killed in Philippines in the past three years. http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/chandigarh/Punjabi-youth-shot-dead-in-Philippines/articleshow/48352647.cms

There's a very good reason for this - the founding Gurus of Sikhism were concerned to ensure that the caste system played no part in the lives of the followers of their faith. In India it is an easy matter to determine someone's likely caste from their family name, therefore Guru Gobind Singh directed that all men should be called Sikh ("Lion") and all women should be called Kaur ("princess") The centre of Sikhism the the Punjab, and the Honourable East India Company liked to recruit Sikhs for its army... the HEIC invaded the Philippines with Indian troops and many of them found that the local girls were rather nice, and they stayed...
