No... my girlfriend went back to Antique for the weekend.  I am living on Chooks To Go.

One can only imagine that those chooks are stuffed.

I planned and planned my budget, considered every possible scenario except what actually happened. Came single, now there are 3 of us (and 2 cats) so the countless hours of planning over 5 years were basically wasted.

From my understanding everyone budgets for 2 cats into their planning. Just shows you do not read forums where it is said over and over, plan for 2 cats.  :mocking:

I don't budget for stray cats or dogs.  All the food trash gets thrown over the fence into the rice fields.  I don't want the strays to associate my yard with dinner.

Don't forget the goats - well hold on, I actually made money off my goats

Hi Brett,

I have over the years often thought that Goats would make a perfect money making project, and I have known for some time as well that because Goats meat is acceptable to both Muslim and Jewish societies has helped in it's popularity worldwide. I have read often that Goat's are much easier and less expensive to keep, not to mention they breed like rabbits!

Here are some facts that you may not have known or considered:

As of 2010 goat is the most widely consumed red meat, eaten by more than 70% of the world's population

As of 2011 the number of goats slaughtered in the United States has doubled every 10 years for three decades, rising to nearly one million annually. While in the past goat meat in the West was confined to ethnic markets, it can now be found in a few upscale restaurants and purveyors, especially in cities such as New York and San Francisco.

Goat meat is savory and less sweet than beef but slightly sweeter than lamb. It can be prepared in a variety of ways, such as being stewed, curried, baked, grilled, barbecued, minced, canned fried or made into sausages.

Despite being classified as red meat, goat is leaner and contains less cholesterol and fat than both lamb and beef, and fewer calories than beef or chicken; therefore, it requires low-heat, slow cooking to preserve tenderness and moisture.

Not to mention that the meat is better for you but there is also the benefits of Goats milk and Goats cheese!

The benefits of Goat's milk over Cow's milk;

Goat's milk is less allergenic

Goat's milk is naturally homogenized

Goat's milk is easier to digest

Goat's milk rarely causes lactose intolerance

Goat's milk matches up to the human body better than cow's milk

Then there is Goat's Cheese, which I will admit at first I did not like, but then that may because I had only ever eaten cheese from Cow's milk in the past!

Additionally it may turn out that Goat's cheese is better for you than your regular cheese.

It appears they are very easy to raise, less likely to get a disease, and they double as lawnmowers, well if they are good enough for the Congressional Cemetery in Washington, I should think they would be good enough to get rid of all the weeds etc. on the NLEX, that we seem to be paying people to cut the weeds and grass and getting no where!

"You should have seen this place yesterday," he said. "It's amazing what they've done in only one day."

"They're also a money saver. It costs about $4,000 to rent the goats for the week, which breaks down to about 25 cents per goat per hour, says Williams.

But more important, using the goats will prevent pesticides or other toxins from entering the Anacostia watershed, which sits roughly a half-mile behind the cemetery."

"We were really concerned with using pesticides to clear out the invasive plants because of the watershed," said Williams. "So we decided to use a technology that's been used for thousands of years."

I know this post turned out much longer than I had originally intended, and I have relied heavily information from the web, but I did not want anyone to think that this was just my opinion, or that I profess to be some kind of an expert on the subject, and that there were some facts to back up my theory that Goats might just be the best potential money maker here in the Philippines.

I have never owned, or raised goats in the past and I am not currently doing so, but....., if I ever get my little plot of land in Paradise, for sure along with chickens I will consider goats, in that way I will have all the red and white meat I need, not to mention, milk, cheese and eggs. Now all I have to figure out is how to grow grapes so I can start making my own wine!!!!

Why do I have this morbid imagination about Tuka Ram, Papa Carl and Senior Chief Brett playing around

with their goats?

Baah-baaaah.......

Scottish prefer sheep...  Why do Scotsman wear kilts?  Because sheep can hear a zipper from 50 yards away!

I have been busy planning our retirement budget. It is reassuring that you can reside in the Philippines for much less. This is out back up position if or when the United States is no longer affordable.

Seriously guys, those goats I bought in a drunken fit of altruism in April we sold for treble.  It is something worth considering.  Admittedly this was small scale, and I have no idea how to do it commercially but hey, give it a shot.  The short angry one, other business interests aside, always has a couple of pigs and goats on the go and if nothing else, you're going to be fed for a long time :)... Anyone really understand how long it takes to get through an entire pig???
