Mr Lee Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009  Could the USA be leaning toward legalizing Marijuana as a possible cure to their ailing economy, and if so, what would that do to the rest of the world, such as the Philippines and their harsh punishments for possession and sale. A budget cure: Marijuana taxes? In this desperate economy, some argue that legalizing and taxing marijuana could plug multibillion-dollar holes in federal and state coffers.http://articles.moneycentral.msn.com/Inves...px#pageTopAchorI think it is a good idea, and just like liquor was once illegal and is now legal, the time for marijuana to be legal is long overdue IMHO and I do not smoke it, like it or ever intend to use it, but many people seem to and as long as they do not smoke and drive or use it while at work, then why not make it legal? Mike S Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 Doubt they will ever legalize it as it would be hard to control ...... pot can be grown in a flower pot in the window of your house ..... it is a weed that needs very little care and can be grown anywhere ...... so there would in effect be no or very little revenue gained by allowing it to be grown ..... which is the main reason it isn't legalize right now ....... And before you who have never tried it begin to scream that it is a dangerous drug and narcotic ...... it is not an more dangerous than alcohol ....... and if compared to alcohol it is far less dangerous as usually it peaks after smoking a certain amount (as long as it is not laced with another substance) where as with alcohol it can be used until you pass out loosing all control of your body functions ....... But of coarse this debate can be argued till the cows come home with both sides racking up scientific facts to support each side ...... and as it is still ILLIGAL ...... it must be considered as such and be refrained from use ...... such as was alcohol during probation .... Well in my opinion the same problems occur as when you are out with people smoking around you,if you enter a room with people smoking marijuana then you will be inhaling it too. Possibly lead you to driving charges even though you weren't smoking it. Not sure if other countries do random drug test for drivers but Australia does. What about kids in the room or car, they will end up inhaling too.
tom_shor Posted April 30, 2009 Posted April 30, 2009 If they legalize it buy stock in Dominos and Pizza Hut.
Mike S Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Well according to the info given out by the drug testing companies it will not show up in your drug test (wrong) anyone who has ever shot-gunned can verify the untruth in that statement ........ hahahahaha Tom ...... you may get a ticket for 2nd hand Mary Jane smoke ...... but who will care ..... just remember the Cheech and Chong movies ....... Probably their most famous movie "Up in Smoke"Not sure about this one
Mik Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 The war on drugs is a failure. Banning a substance doesn't stop people from using it. Prohibition doesn't work. It's just a country making war on its own citizens to keep them safe. You can't use a plant to help you relax in the privacy of your own home. The government wants you to be safe so they lock you up in prison for many years and destroy your life. Prohibtion is bad because it enables government abuses like corruption, invasion of privacy via drug searches and urine testing, and arrest of otherwise peaceful law-abiding citizens. The police sometimes plant drugs on a person in hopes of receiving a large bribe in exchange for his release. Because they know that those arrested in the Philippines will sit in jail for two years or more before the case even comes to trial. Drug syndicates support prohibtion because it keeps prices high for their black market drugs. Drug syndicates sell drugs to children. If drugs were legal they could be regulated and only sold to adults. The real reason to end prohibition is FREEDOM. Don't we have personal sovereignty over our own bodies? Don't we have personal responsibility to make our own choices in life? If government revenue is falling short then they should stop spending so damn much money. People pay too much tax already. Start with abolishing the DEA and the PDEA and release from prison all non-violent drug offenders and see how much money the government will save. Did God make a mistake when he created certain plants? The government thinks so. They want to eradicate certain plants. In the Philippines it's life in prison for just growing a single marijuana plant. How many congressmen use dangerous and addictive drugs like tobacco or alcohol? How many congressmen receive contributions from the tobacco and alcohol industries? End prohibition of drugs for adults because of freedom. Balance the budget by spending less of the taxpayers' money."There are not enough jails, not enough police, not enough courts to enforce a law not supported by the people."- Hubert H. Humphrey You make a very good point however I spot one flaw. Making it illegal to sell to children by no means prevents them from getting it. Any more than it does now when it is illegal for everyone to have it. It would be easier for me to support if more adults acted in a responsible manner but they don't. They want freedom but they don't want the responsibility that comes with it. If they do foolish things that only endanger themselves that is their business but too many do foolish things that endanger others. Like driving under the influence. I don't just mean alcohol. Legalizing drugs would certainly solve some problems but it would also create others.
Hoz Posted May 1, 2009 Posted May 1, 2009 Back "in the day" when we smoked pot like it was legal we used to say MJ would be legalized within the next 10 years...well it's been 40+ and even though we now have a US President who admits he not only smoked but also INHALED we are not much closer to having the prohibition repealed.
