Papa Carl Posted September 5, 2013 Posted September 5, 2013 A fun day out, on both the 6th and 7th, for those who prefer Golf, or those who enjoy Rugby. But even more important is that proceeds go for good causes. If anyone is coming up please let me know so we can meet up. The 10th International Invitational Fat Boy 10’s Rugby Tournament is set on September 7, 2013 at the PAF Challenger Field inside the Clark Freeport Zone. A total of 16 foreign and local teams will compete in a game of rugby for charitable causes. This yearly event is initiated by the Pot Bellied Pigs RFC Hong Kong to assist the underprivileged children of the country through the generating donations from companies and private individuals. Last year, the Pot Bellied Pigs was able to raise 45,000USD and this year they are targeting 60,000USD in donations. The said tournament started in 2004 when the club decided to create an event that will raise funds to assist the street children of Angeles City and to promote the sport in the Philippines. The event also helps generate visitors in the country as they are expecting more than 300 local and foreign visitors from some parts of Asia and New Zealand in this year’s tournament. Proceeds of the event will go directly to the club’s beneficiaries which are the Clark Jets Rugby Sports–which comprises of street children and other local rugby teams from Cebu and Davao. Other donations will go to educational sponsorship in Thailand and building of yurts in Mongolia for the Christina Noel Foundation. Besides this, the Pot Bellied Pigs also support medical projects where they help provide medicines and vaccinations to hundreds of children in the Philippines. Before the main event, the same players are scheduled to play a friendly game of golf at the Mimosa Golf and Country Club on September 6, 2013 that will kick-off at 9:00 in the morning. The rugby tournament on September 7 will also start at 9:00am until late in the afternoon for the final game of the top contenders. During the event, 500 children from different barangays in Angeles City will join for a day of fun games and activities. A feeding program will also be included in the event’s activities. According to the club’s President Anson Bailey, rugby is a great team sport for all size and ages. Promoting this sport to the street children will teach them the values of cooperation and discipline. Everyone is invited to support the club’s cause!
