I'm looking for suggestions on the best mode of transport for that leg. Complicating matters may be that my flight is likely to arrive between 10 PM and midnight. Suggestions appreciated :) .

from Buendia to Batangas I have seen buses and even from cubao.

not sure from Balcaran, (name of bus lines i cant recall just now)

there are buses at night to there ...BUT.since its your 1st time

and you have a night time arrival

consider a night sleep over ,

So you can get rested and have "proper"bearings during the daylight.

The Buendia bus terminal is your best bet. Every taxi driver alive in Manila knows where it is.

Look on the windshield of the bus...it will say it's destination. Get one that says: Batangas port direct.

JAM bus in one name of a bus company. There ok..no problems....I have ridden them 3 times back and forth from the Batangas port to Manila and visa versa.

English is widely spoken...no problem with that.

In a couple of hours your at the Batangas port. English is widely spoken there also.

Just ask if your confused where to go.

The last ferry (actually a big outrigger "pump" boat) to Puerto Galera or Sabang beach leaves at 5pm.

I would just get a room in a Manila hotel for the night...and then make your way to Batangas in the morning.

Sounds like good sound advice, thank you both.

Too bad this visit is going to be of short duration, something of a long meet and greet with the prospective family without a lot of sightseeing beyond  Mindoro Oriental. I'm still looking forward to it greatly. :)
