Philhealth Rates Going Up Again

JJReyes, on 02 Oct 2013 - 05:10 AM, said: The national government policy is to provide universal healthcare. Those who pay Philhealth premiums will be subsidizing the poor who cannot afford it.    Would that be "Aquinocare"? Look what is happening in the USA because of Obamacare. The government is shutdown. Could the same thing happen here...or has it already?

I got sticker shock opening my mail from Kaiser Permanente. Even with Medicare, our premiums for Part C & D and the co-pay have skyrocketed. My son mentioned his annual premiums have increased by $4,000 for a family of three. That's $4,000 increase for three persons who are young and healthy!

Now that the new health care law is being implemented the actual results can start to be seen.

Employers who use low skill workers are cutting back their employees hours to less than 30 hours/week so the new health care law does not impact them. Result: more temporary workers and fewer full time employees.

Employers who were providing health insurance now have to provide health plans that comply with even more government regulations. Result: employers are having to switch to more expensive plans passing costs on to their employees or employers drop health coverage and push their employees on to the government health exchanges.

For most people who will have to obtain insurance through the new health insurance exchanges or pay a hefty penalty to the IRS, their costs will increase over whatever health insurance they had before. Result: Many people will opt to pay the IRS penalty rather than get health insurance through the health exchanges. Higher taxes.

If the intent of the law was to provide more affordable health care to more people it is a total failure.

If the intent of the law was to further discourage use of private health care insurance and make more people dependent on expensive bureaucratic government health care, then it is a big success.

great info.  I am assuming you have to be married to a filipina in order to qualify for philhealth?  at 2,000 php

a year seems like a pretty good deal to me.

No, I am not married yet.  You need your ACR card.

5. Can a foreign national enroll as an Individually Paying Member?

YES, the Implementing Rules and Regulations of RA 7875, as amended by RA 9241, provides for the inclusion to the National Health Insurance Program the citizens of other countries residing and/or working in the Philippines. If the foreign national is employed, he/she shall be registered under the Employed Sector Program. Meanwhile, if he/she is self-employed or merely residing in the country, he/she may enroll as an Individually Paying Member. He/she only needs to accomplish and submit to any PhilHealth office, the PhilHealth Member Registration Form (PMRF) and a photocopy of his/her Alien Certificate of Registration (ACR) issued by the Bureau of Immigration (BI) to prove his/her residency in the country.

I was very surprised to learn you can get Phil Health as just a tourist.  I have had it for 3 months but have not needed to use it yet.... not sure how good it will turn out to be but it is so cheap....

If you are not married, you can get a policy for yourself. You can also get another one for your wife/girlfriend, her children and her parents and any other dependent relatives.

Just wondering...what kind of coverage do you get for $4 bucks a month? Is it just to see a doctor ? Can you get a prescription from him?

Is it like one doctor that you go for any illness?

If its one thing I've learned it's that you get what you pay for so that's why I'm skeptical . Appreciate if someone can shed some light on this. Thanks -Anthony

Here is what they have on their website for individuals. http://www.philhealth.gov.ph/members/individually_paying/coverage.html Not a lot of info but it is all I have ever seen.  There is a link to a chart with amounts but it is dated 2009, so how accurate is it?

yes one should at least consider getting/paying for the "FAMILY" so that you can be PROACTIVE in their

medical issues. as it can REDUCE your liability /exposure in case of a medical situation

it appears that you have not been to the country or have read much about it.

PHILHEALTH is the government provided health care insurance.

it is NOT MUCH to OUR/YOURS western medical insurance experience

..its all that these people have unless they can buy Private insurance

PHIL HEALTH does NOT pay for the out patient   DOCTORS visit .

it will pay the doctors IN hospital care/visit

it is basically a LIMITED major medical coverage w/limitations.

please check out the philhealth website.

one should NOT DEPEND ON philhealth coverage as their Primary insurance .

It is well worth getting. Three times in the last year some one in the family has gone to the hospital. Average cost was around 10 or 11 thousand pesos. Average amount Phil Health paid was 3 or 4 thousand. Iv,e heard in another forum that one person had Phil Health pay around 30,000 pesos but their bill was a lot higher
