Clark Flights Diverted To Manila, Mactan

CLARK FREEPORT – Typhoon Santi has forced four commercial airlines, which have regular flights at the Clark International Airport, to divert flights to the Mactan Airport in Cebu and Manila Airport late Friday evening, according to the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC) yesterday.

CIAC President and CEO Victor Jose I. Luciano said Asiana Airlines and Jin Air from Incheon in South Korea and Cebu Pacific Air were diverted to Mactan Airport, while Tiger Air Philippines from Singapore was diverted to the Manila Airport during the height of Typhoon Santi.

“All of the passengers of the four commercial airlines landed safely in Mactan and Manila,” Luciano said.

Luciano said that the four diverted airlines arrived yesterday morning at Clark Airport, adding that CIA has resumed normal operations early yesterday despite power outages that affected many areas in Clark.

He said that as of yesterday afternoon, Clark Airport has been operating with the use of power generators.

“Clark Airport operations have been normalized since Saturday morning, and we continue to provide service to the passengers,” he added.

Several trees leading to the Clark Airport were also felled by the typhoon. Personnel from CIAC, Clark Development Corporation, Philippine Air Force and the PNP Aviation Group were able to clear the trees.

Luciano also said that CIA is ready to accommodate diversion of flights, as well as assist in disaster operations affected by calamities.

Like I said in a previous post, it was a bit crazy here for a while, and the winds were very very high and caused quite a bit of damage.

 

Today when I returned to the school, which happened to be shut for a holiday, (but not my classes unfortunately), I could see the amount of damage from the storm, almost all the trees were damaged, some even up rooted, some roof damage etc.

 

But it appears that it came and went in virtually one night, and other than property damage, nothing else, so there are things to be happy and thankful for.
