Papa Carl Posted October 31, 2013 Posted October 31, 2013 Try this, for being proud. Philippines is 1st to win all 5 international beauty pageants http://goodnewspilipinas.com/2013/10/03/philippines-1st-win-5-international-beauty-pageants/ Megan Young made history for not only bagging the elusive Miss World title for the Philippines but for also making the country the first to win in five major international beauty pageants. While Brazil was the first to win the “Big Four” – Miss World, Miss Universe, Miss International, and Miss Earth – and Venezuela is the “most successful” with 19 victories from the four pageants, the Philippines holds the record for winning five major pageants, including Miss Supranational. While Miss Supranational is not included in the Big Four, it has drawn much interest in its five years of existence. After Young’s historic win as Miss World, the Philippines now has eight title holders from the five pageants, following Venezuela’s record of 19 and United States’ 14. The country won the Miss Universe crown twice (Gloria Diaz in 1969 and Maria Margarita Moran in 1973) and the Miss Earth once (Karla Henry in 2008). Philippines won the Miss International three times (Aurora Pijuan in 1970, Melanie Marquez in 1979, and Precious Lara Quigaman in 2005). This year, the Philippines won the Miss Supranational title care of Mutya Johanna Datul. Then add to that, for our female members! Kapampangan is WCOPA’s Best Model winner http://goodnewspilipinas.com/2013/08/09/kapampangan-is-wcopas-best-model-winner/ Reygor Pineda Gorospe beat model-contestants from 52 countries to win the top prize in the just-concluded 2013 WCOPA (World Championship Of Performing Arts), held in L.A. The 6’4″ Kapampangan who, aside from taking home the championship trophy, won six more medals in each preliminary category (Casual Wear, Formal Wear, Swimwear and Photo Model) leading to the grand finals. WCOPA has been going on annually for several years now and the Filipino artists have been bringing home “golds” (won in the prelims), with Jed Madela as the first Filipino grand winner in the singing category and who has just been elevated to the Hall Of Fame. Every year, it’s the Philippines that sends the most number of contestants (mostly singers, this year a total of 32), according to Carlo Orosa (who was once a member of the WCOPA executive committee), and that could be a factor in the country’s winning most medals. Part of the champions’ prizes like Reygor is a scholarship and the possibility of getting offers from “agencies” (as Reygor called them). Each WCOPA participant is required to shell out an entrance fee. “I paid $1,500 which I saved up while working in Japan, as a waiter during the day and as model at night,” said Reygor. “I’ve been working there for more than six months. It’s my first time to join an international competition like WCOPA but I have competed in ramp-modeling contests in Japan. That was where I was discovered by an American-Japanese who produces fashion shows during a fund-raising event in the Filipino community, and it was him who encouraged me to join WCOPA. It was the owner of the restaurant in Tokyo where I worked who invited me to join the fund-raising event.” A native of Mexico, Pampanga, Reygor reached only up to third year high school in the province because he had to move to Manila after he was discovered by a basketball talent scout. He finished fourth-year at UE. Then in college, he quit his HRM (Hotel & Restaurant Management) studies when he was in third year at San Sebastian College where he was a member of the Stags team (playing forward). He transferred from Adamson University (where he also played for the school’s Falcons team). And before anyone accuses me of being sexist, I'll add this, Filipina Karting Queen bags awards in Houston Grand Prix http://goodnewspilipinas.com/2013/10/14/filipina-karting-queen-bags-awards-houston-grand-prix/ Representing Asia and the Philippines, auto racer Michele Bumgarner made her mark at the Grand Prix of Houston Indycar series. Michele’s debut on the 2013 series serves as a qualifier and preparation for her to run the full pro Mazda Championship series in 2014 in Florida. She not only made the top ten cut, but brought home two awards. “I’m so proud of her to representing the Philippines as I’m a Filipina mommy, so proud of her and good luck for the rest of her race,” said Monina Bumgarner, Michele’s mother. Competing in a sport dominated by men, Michele knew, the challenge was tough, she qualified finishing number 14th for race number one. “You want her fit right into the car because when you actually feel a cargo is loose, it’s not your arms that feel it first it’s your tail feathers so you want her to be right up against that car married right tight in it she can become one with the race car that’s the safest place for her to be,” said Lee Ann Nash of Nash Performance Group. But with focus and determination, Michele found her way around the Indycar series circuit on day 2, finishing 9th. She received the Staubli award and Quarter Master Hard Charger award for a gain of four positions in #6 Mazda Philippine Race Car. “I’m very happy very thankful to all the supporters out there, keep supporting, proud Pinoy, thank you to Mazda, Philippines for all the help, said the Michele, dubbed as the “Asian Karting Queen.” Michele is now on her way up to the full Indy route championship in Florida next year as the first Asian to get this far. There you go Jake, not only is she a Filipina Beauty, she can drive you around and fix the car when it breaks down! Not that I am saying you will intentionally pull the plugs out, just to see her bend over the fender of the car to find out what is wrong.
