Call me bubba Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 information i just received is that BLUE CROSS is offering "GROUP RATES" to members of an expat /american organization. this information i have heard in the past but it was not 100% certain til just a few days ago i received a PDF file of what these "rates " would be but i am unable to download to review it. POINT i wish to post, that if 1 is need of a quality health insurance and receive a "GROUP"rate it is NOW available. the only draw back ( is that 1 must be a member of this group/association) if one is interested contact the http://americanassociationphilippines.org/ OR attend the meeting that this info would be discussed will be at its December event at the manila elks club Makati. I am not a member at this time of this group nor have i received any benefit from it except attending the events it has sponsored(4th of july, get togethers )receiving advice regarding being an expat, &. the fellowship of meeting quality expats, in the past i have given "food contributions" to help others in need this organization is the ONLY 1( which i am aware of) that will help american expats as the American embassy no longer gives some "help" or support as they did years ago,

Call me bubba Posted December 12, 2013 Author Posted December 12, 2013 (edited) i attended the meeting and it appears to be a very good offer thats being given. the 30 day wavier period will be not used, insured members over the age of 65 (which if any other firms in the philippines will offer coverage) it will allow emergency overseas coverage (read the rules for exact level ofcoverage.) coverage of dependents over 15days yr old the plan i recalled showing the rates is the Blue cross select standard w/ACCESS plan, meaning no cash outlay(if you follow the plans rules) here is a sample of the rates i obtained. age 61-65 annual (rates in pesos) 27.564 for option 1 750.000 coverage 43.450 option 2 1200000 coverage 45.737 option 3 1.5million peso maximum coverage for each disability for the life of the insured age 51-55 annual (rates in pesos) 22.552 option 1 750.000 coverage 35.910 option 2 1200000 coverage 37.800 option 3 1.5million peso coverage these rates are based on GROUP . of what i understand they do not have the 100 required members to get the rates they are having a ongoing membership drive they hope to reach the goal soon. i did see rates for OVER 65 yo and they did seem reasonable compared to what I seen offered by online international insurance agency for additional info or contact see the 1st post Edited December 12, 2013 by Pittman apartments Sgn
MikeB Posted December 12, 2013 Posted December 12, 2013 45.737 option 3 1.5million peso maximum coverage for each disability for the life of the insured Meaning the 1.5 million is a lifetime limit? These limits are usually per year. Here is a brochure of all the Select Standard (peso) plans - http://www.bluecross.com.ph/pdf/brochure_saccess.pdf Here is the same for the Blue Royale (dollar) - http://www.bluecross.com.ph/pdf/brochure_blueroyale.pdf I pulled these brochures off the internet so I'm not sure the prices are current. My understanding is that BC will give a discount for 4 or more members eg, a family.

My understanding is that BC will give a discount for 4 or more members eg, a family. yes thats true of what i heard at the meeting what i also heard and saw that they offer rates of those over 65 at a more reasonable rate than the "regular plan" since I am not well versed on insurance , coverage limits, disabilities. lifetime coverage etc. I cant comment any further. if one is interested please contact them, TELL them your interested in the group plan thats beeing offered by (see link below) http://americanassoc...hilippines.org/ My purpose of this TOPIC 1,is to make others aware that a quality insurance coverage is available at a lower rate than what is currently shown, 2. Blue cross-Philippines(they are not affiliated w/blue cross usa) is a better respected insurance of what I have read or heard over the years 3. is to help some forum member who is currently living here or is considering to live that he/she can save. if he.she has a good experience , share w/the forum the positive or negative I hope in small part I made a difference to help someone 4, to save one some $$$$
newbster Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Interesting post. Does it make sense to have PH (phil health) + blue cross? Has anyone on the forum actually been able to enroll in blue cross at the reduced "group" price yet? I'm trying to figure out my health care strategy once I am able to retire in RP. So far it seems this is a valid strategy: 1) Enroll in PH 2) Enroll some key extended family members in PH to avoid unexpected medical bill surprises. I supposed ask for "paid receipts" to be sure the money you give them for this is actually spent on this. :) 3) Enroll in group blue cross plan of some sort 4) Try to live near a good hospital (Chong Hua in Cebu, not sure if there is a good hospital in other areas like Baguio, Baccolod, Dumaguete that I am considering for retirement) 5) Keep perhaps $100,000 in reserve for medical expenses throughout your lifetime Anything I'm missing? Thanks.
Steve & Myrlita Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 In Bacolod, Dr Pablo O Torres (Riverside) Hospital is the best followed by Doctor's Hospital, then Sanitarium Hospital. The worst is the govt hospital.
MikeB Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 Does it make sense to have PH (phil health) + blue cross? If you have full, comprehensive private insurance, unless your claim is denied for preexisting or some other reason, I don't see an advantage to having PhilHealth. Enroll some key extended family members in PH to avoid unexpected medical bill surprises. I supposed ask for "paid receipts" to be sure the money you give them for this is actually spent on this. PhilHealth will not cover everything. If it's a significant illness or injury there WILL be extra expenses even if they go to a public hospital. If they're classified indigent they should not have to pay for PhilHealth but they have to sign up. Try to live near a good hospital (Chong Hua in Cebu, not sure if there is a good hospital in other areas like Baguio, Baccolod, Dumaguete that I am considering for retirement) The best hospitals are in Manila.
