And the sabre rattling begins!

Now all that China has to figure out is how to get 2 and a half million soldiers across the oceans in their one aircraft carrier.

The aircraft carrier is a Soviet era ship purchased from one of the Eastern Bloc nations. It then underwent extensive renovation. Their aircraft carrier has limited military value. The purpose is propaganda. China can claim they are now a world power equal to the United States. The Peoples Liberation Army is massive, but it is defensive. Just look at the quality of their armament. They have no offensive capability. Purpose is saber rattling.

I am glad the United States is ignoring China's claims over international waters. The flight of the two B-52 bombers is one way to call their bluff.

China is unable to sustain combat flight operations during hours of darkness.

PLA has one mission statement,  keeping the citizens of China in line. The PLA has very little offensive capability.

The Chinese navy could easily invade and hold the Spratly's as Philippines has not the ability or will to provide humanitarian aid by sea or air within its own boarders after the latest storm.

China can cause serious mischief by proxy at any time in Korea.

Remember the recent PLA Navy-escorted fishing trip from Hainan? That was highly successful in every sense for China. The mere presence of well-armed naval vessels was enough to scare-off the Philippine navy and thus China gained control of the Scarborough Shoals. And PLAN's continuing presence amongst the Spratleys has prevented the Philippine Navy from resupplying the very few PAF personnel occupying a grounded, rusting vessel. And now China has sent its aircaft carrier escorted by two guided-missile destroyers, two guided-missile cruisers, a submarine and support/supply ships into the area which has been conveniently vacated by the US' George Washington battle group.

It's one thing to saber rattle in front of the Philippine military. The situation is different with the United States, provided there is the political will to call China's bluff. Their single aircraft carrier is on the move, but it carries no aircraft.

I have always been curious about military tactics for a given scenario.  For many centuries, the Chinese was a

dominate force to be reckon with inland.  Now, the Chinese is trying to catch up with the major powers and their

quest to become another blue water navy.  They have a lone way to go, especially amphibious assaults.

Oh yeah, you can bet those two B-52's had special EW (electronic warfare) systems that would track, identify all

the radar emitters from coastal China.  But China was smart.  They chose to remain silent, not to give away their

RF characteristics and their radar locations, especially their mobile ones.  On the other hand, the USAF did not

go active either and probably had a commercial airline package to fake their real identity.

The name of the game is deception.  With their only ally North Korea and the unpredictable nature of that psycho

dear leader, things could go extremely confusing in the fogs of war.  I think we should tone down our posturing

in that area.  Otherwise, there will be no Made in China products for this Christmas at the local WalFart stores.

Just sayin' -- Jake
