Call me bubba Posted December 18, 2013 Posted December 18, 2013 Not only are the drivers and conductors on commission, if they don't make quota the cost of the gasoline is deducted from their pay: "The lawmakers said in a majority of Metro Manila bus lines, drivers get a commission of nine percent from the gross collection while conductors receive seven percent. The bus owners or operators are the ones who set the commission rate for drivers and conductors. Not meeting the quota for the day would deprive them of the coveted bonus or worse, half of the cost of the gasoline will be deducted from their collections and their commission would be computed based on the remaining amount, they said." http://www.philstar.com/headlines/2013/12/18/1269393/bus-firm-probed-possible-labor-violations seems that they should be paid a daily wage yet ?? Bus drivers in Metro Manila are entitled to receive regular monthly salaries after the Department of Labor and Employment implemented a regulation that disallowed the "boundary" system. http://anc.yahoo.com/news/official--don-mariano-transit-has-yet-to-get-certificate-that-says-it-pays-drivers-a-monthly-salary-010403719.html
Papa Carl Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 Some interesting facts about who owns this bus line, and how many others do they own, and who are the people on the board of these corporations. It appears many of these bus lines are owned and operated by the same families..., oh there is a shock! Who is making the money, oh that is obvious. jpbago Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 Some trains would be nice as it would alleviate much of the traffic congestion/accidents in the entire country. One train could remove 50 buses from the road. Then those buses could be used for schools to take 100s of tricycles off the road. The tricycle drivers could be used to build the railways. The LRT in Manila needs more cars on each train. It seems that someone is controlling the lack of development for their own interests (buses).
Call me bubba Posted December 20, 2013 Posted December 20, 2013 The LRT in Manila needs more cars on each train. the current set up is already at its MAX , i am not an electrician or engineer ,the trains can only carry X cars due to power requirements, if they add X plus 1 additional set of cars or even add a car in the middle the power can not be sufficient to carry the extra load. if the system is already carrying X trains at any given time it may carry X plus 2 but NOT any other again to those who had constructed or bid for this years ago. It seems that someone is controlling the lack of development for their own interests (buses). 1. is the ""P"" word 2. lack of proper planning and foresight to look ahead. and of course the bidding and procurement procedures It appears many of these bus lines are owned and operated by the same families..., according to the news accounts so far that your statement is true and that some "influential " powers/families are the "owners" either visible or thru other investment means/ control
jpbago Posted December 21, 2013 Posted December 21, 2013 2. lack of proper planning and foresight to look ahead. So common here. Always years behind the needs of the population and the tourists.
Call me bubba Posted December 22, 2013 Posted December 22, 2013 (edited) a article from the UK regarding this tragedy caution graphic photos At least 22 people have been killed when a bus fell from an elevated highway onto another vehicle in a suburban region of the Philippines capital Manila. The incident took place at about 05:00 am local time in Taguig city, south of Manila. The police said 10 people died on the spot when the bus plunged into a van below. Most of the victims were the passengers of the bus as there were only two people inside the van, suggest local reports. Both the occupants of the van have also been killed. The driver of the bus has survived. More than 20 people have been injured and have been taken to hospitals. The death toll is likely to increase as some of the injured are in serious condition. It is not clear what caused the crash. The authorities have launched an investigation to find out what went wrong. The bus was operated by the Don Mariano Transit Corporation. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) has ordered the vehicles run by the firm to be taken off the road until the probe is completed. "LTFRB policy is immediately to suspend the franchise of the bus company but because of the Don Mariano's past accidents, the LTFRB and Don Mariano management agreed to cancel all operations," the board's chairperson Winston Ginez told a local radio station. Too bad it took so many passenger deaths before they decided to do it i am still laughing. had to change my shorts again as wet them. this is another "after the fact" feel good reaction to an situation that could have been avoided the key to this is 1. strict and real enforcement of the current rules and laws 2. inspections of the buses and other public transport on a surprise basis 3.discipline
