Jollygoodfellow Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Hats off to this law. Caps banned as Philippines malls fight crime MANILA: Police in the Philippines capital have banned the wearing of caps in shopping malls to stop criminals concealing their identity from security cameras. The ban was imposed after a gang of hammer-wielding robbers looted a jewellery store at a popular suburban Manila shopping mall on Dec.15. The suspects are believed to have used baseball caps to hide their identities. Police officials for Manila and its suburbs met with shopping mall security officials last week, telling them to bar people wearing caps from entering as a security precaution, said Metro Manila police spokesman Chief Inspector Robert Domingo. “We studied their strategies. If they want to commit a crime, they wear caps. That way, the (closed circuit) TV will not be able to photograph their faces,” he on Monday. He said mall security guards had been instructed to politely ask those wearing caps or any hats that may hide their faces, not to wear them inside. Malls are packed during the Christmas season and the jewellery store robbery had panicked thousands of shoppers, drawing the attention even of President Benigno Aquino. http://gulftoday.ae/portal/c3170389-9343-4607-bd04-2b0e78a59b7b.aspx

JJReyes Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Banks in the United States require the removal of headgear. Security cameras at mall entrances are at different levels, not just overhead. This makes it more difficult to conceal your identity even when wearing a cap.
robert k Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 My bank in the US does not require that I remove my hat, nor my friends bank when I made their mortgage payment one month. It must only apply to uptight banks. When I was in Dumaguete they did institute hat removal at entrance to the mall, I basically tipped my hat to the security guards as I walked by.
Americano Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Removing our hats? Well I guess that's a good start for weak minded people. I guess we can still wear a pantyhose over our head and face like some robbers like to do in other countries. A hat is only one thing that can conceal a person's identity. Stupid is as stupid does is the best way to describe most requirements in the Philippines.

Don't get me started Americano -- it's too early in the morning for that.....he, he.
Americano Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 (edited) Condoms are too small for the face so you can pass on this one Jake. By the way when are you coming to the Philippines so we can have a few beers? Oh, I just figured it out, Jake you like to smell pantyhose? Jake Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 I welcome the heightened alert but it will just go back to everyday complacency. I suspect those restrictions were already in place but the guards armed with shotguns will go back to the status quo. Reminds me of the lack of security at the international airport last week when a mayor was gunned down. Same old chit -- Jake
FlyAway Posted December 23, 2013 Posted December 23, 2013 Malls in Sacramento are the same way. They first ask polietley to remove hoodies and hats. Gets a little more forceful of they do not comply. Have seen this first hand when a guy was wearing a hoodie in the mall. Security asked nicely to take it down. He took it down and then after a few steps put it back up. Security was a little bit louder with his tone and local police officers appeared to escort him out.

I guess you ain't cool if you don't wear an expensive, over-sized hoodies in the middle of a heat wave. And don't forget you need to pull down your jeans where you butt crack is exposed for all the world to see. Just as well, they can't run too far when being foot chased.....he, he. Question -- is that western culture of undesirable fashion already contaminated the young Filipinos?
