Medic Mike Posted December 25, 2013 Posted December 25, 2013 MANILA - Why do Filipinos still celebrate Christmas even after a major disaster like super typhoon "Yolanda?" According to Fr. Edu Gariguez, the Filipinos’ Christian faith keeps them going amid the adversities in life. “Everywhere we go, even if there’s a big disaster, Filipinos will tell you may awa ang Diyos, makakaraos rin tayo [God has mercy on us and we will keep on moving],” CBCP News quoted Gariguez as saying. He added: "The Filipino spirit and our faith keep us moving. We stand together as one family regardless of religion." Gariguez is the Executive Secretary of the National Secretariat for Social Action-Justice and Peace (NASSA), the social action arm of the Catholic Bishops Conference of the Philippines. NASSA earlier organized the preparation of food packs for 19,300 households in Jaro, Capiz, Antique, Aklan, Taytay, Calbayog, Cebu, Borongan and Palo after the typhoon. The death toll in the super typhoon has already reached more than 6,000. There are still more than 1,000 missing. http://www.abs-cbnnews.com/nation/12/25/13/why-pinoys-still-celebrate-christmas-after-yolanda
