jon1 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 Aside from St Lukes or Medical City, I was wondering if anyone has seen or heard of facilities like the one in this story? http://lifestyle.inquirer.net/145161/alzheimers-patients-find-care-in-thailand-ph JJ Reyes got a plug in it too  In my neighborhood a Korean has about a dozen houses that he provides in house care to the residents. It is a great idea it just doesn't seem that he is ever at full capacity.
Forum Support Old55 Posted December 30, 2013 Forum Support Posted December 30, 2013 There is a lot of talk in Philippines about becoming a medical tourist destination. Today there are only three or four average quality hospitals in the whole country. Wealthy Filipinos go to Hong Kong or the US for medical care.
JJReyes Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I was interviewed by an Associated Press reporter for this story. He had visited my website on overseas retirement care in the Philippines. Tons of information on the subject was forwarded. It was reduced to a one liner. What the Philippines already has for international retirees are Assisted Residential Care Homes (ARCHs). Typical size is 8 to 10 beds. Under construction are assisted living, skilled nursing and memory care facilities, which are 40 to 100 beds. The George Dewey Medical & Wellness Center in Subic Bay might be ready in 2015 to accept residents. I am meeting the owner next month for an update. Another group is opening an Alzheimer's (memory care) facility in Cebu City. My wife and I are flying to Cebu for a meeting, although this one is still at the planning stage. My contact in Iloilo City, who is a retired executive from Germany, mentioned their first ARCH is at 100% capacity. They are looking for a second location, possibly in Bacolod City. Is it profitable? The biggest service provider in the Philippines are the Sisters of Charity. They care for elderly priests and others. Their monthly fees are P18,000 to P25,000. While it is not fair to compare non-profit with for-profit ventures, our prices are in the P66,000 to P154,000 a month range. Still cheap for American families because US prices in pesos are P176,000 to P528,000 a month. Medicare will not pay for custodial care. It's mostly private pay for the families.
