JJReyes Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I was quoted by an Associated Press reporter on a story about affordable overseas care for persons with Alzheimer's. The story was mostly about Thailand and the Philippines was mentioned in one brief paragraph. A producer from CTV Canadian National News contacted me asking if there are any Canadians with Alzheimer's living in the Philippines. They may want to do a story. Please PM me if you know someone. jpbago Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I saw this a few days ago and like you say, it is about Thailand. I saved it as I wondered why the PI was not doing this at an even lower price. http://www.thestar.com/news/world/2013/12/31/western_nations_sending_alzheimers_patients_to_thailand_for_care.html
JJReyes Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 The Associated Press reporter who interviewed me resides in Bangkok, Thailand. The AP is jointly owned by 1,400 American newspapers. The members can publish and edit any stories submitted by reporters. I was informed the affordable Alzheimer's care story has already appeared in 200 global newspapers including the Inquirer and GMA-News. Below is the one paragraph about the Philippines. We have a group of medical doctors in Manila and California who are investing in a 100 beds facility. The plan is the doctors will refer patients (Fil-Ams) who cannot afford the $4,000 to $12,000 a month charge for Alzheimer's care in the United States. The Philippines is offering Americans care for $1,500 to $3,500 a month — as compared to $6,900 the American Elder Care Research Organization says is the average monthly bill for a private room in a skilled nursing U.S. facility. About 100 Americans are currently seeking care in the Philippines but more facilities are being built and a marketing campaign will be launched in 2014, says J.J. Reyes, who is planning a retirement community near Manila.
