Don't forget... These are not the same type of cattle as from our more northern climates. Not have they been breed to survive proofs of time in cold but more likely with heat. Other sickness or toxins are possible not I an not thinking so. I the same thing in Zimbabwe, again in Bangladesh, and again in Chad. Just too much time in the cool for the cows...

In northern western australia, there are some places with similiar climate to the philppines, lots of cattle, along with the occasional real cold snap, and the cattle here are no worse for wear.

Yes but the ones in Australia are more acclimated/bred for the weather. Think of the 'kano who comes from a colder area and arrives in the Philippines during a hot spell... The 'kano is in his hotel lying in the ac and trying to keep breathing while those who grew up there are out enjoying themselves...

Nevertheless, 40 cows all dying at the same time is strange. If that would have happened anywhere in Australia it would have made national news.

Last year, in Negros Occidental, there was a mysterious disappearance of 400 sheep:

Alvarez is questioning the deaths of more than 400 rams and ewes at the provincial government ranches in Murcia town and Sagay City, which were blamed by Marañon on wild dogs.

Maybe the cows in Cebu were just reported dead but not really.....

The cattle in Australia are bred and used to climate variations from above 40deg down to 15deg overnight but the Filipino cattle are only used to a variation of around 5-10deg max so when it rains for days at a time and the temperatures are low they seem to suffer same as the Pigs  our friend has a piggery in Balamban and he has lost 12 pigs already in the last week , also the colder weather could spike of a disease in them that has lain dormant and just needed colder weather to start up ( my opinion only ) I am not a vet  :89:  :89:

Not sure why but cows died and crops failed around my area south of Cebu City. There was a constant strong wind caused by the LPA so perhaps the wind chill was what took it's toll in the end?

My wife thinks its just people trying to get money from the government. Filipinos are afraid of getting cold so the cooler weather makes a good excuse for their cattle dying, if they really died.  Its more likely that the cows were killed and sold.

Apparently, the mayor of Cebu City agrees. I can't find the article but he recently vetoed the release of "calamity" funds to people in mountain barangays claiming livestock loss due to the cold.

Yes. It's a huge difference between different types.

(Even WITHIN Sweden it's a huge difference between what temperature the south common "Milk" type and the north "Mountain" type can stand.)

Just about all the cows I seen here are Brahman cows one of the toughest animals alive can live in -10 c to +60c and thrive with out any noticeable effects from the weather even if it got down to + 10 they would not be effected at all .

Brahmans have a bunch of cool things designed into them  like there skin gets much looser in hot weather so they can shed the heat faster when it gets cold there skin tightens up and get much thicker to retain heat .

Most likely they died from being owned by a foreigner  Brrrrr so cold your cow died  but was still tasty

As for they are not used to cold weather they do fine when brought up from Texas to Alberta  as long as they have the summer to get used to the weather and believe me it gos from +25c to +15 every night   .

As a poster stated if 40 cows died for any reason in Canada there would be people all over searching why how and it would be front page world wide .

In the Phils everyone knows the truth , They seen it shiver to keep its body temp up and killed it before it died
