Dining In The Sky

ANTHONY BALLREICH has done it again: Come up with a new dining concept that is the first of its kind in Cebu, location-wise. It’s at the roof deck (the 19th floor) of Apple One. Here at what is called the Apple One Sky Lounge by Blue Elephant, the views are great, and so is Anthony’s Asian food concept.

Anthony is behind Siam in Ayala’s The Terraces and Krua Thai by Siam at the Marina Mall in Lapu-Lapu City. He also has Blue Elephant in Cebu IT Park and has chosen to carry that name for Apple One’s Sky Lounge, located at the Cebu Business Park. He is behind this roof deck restaurant, not only in terms of the food, but also the décor which he himself conceptualized, choosing the furnishing, the lighting details, utilizing mostly local furniture.

The two-level restaurant has al fresco dining at the roof deck, with a covered function room at the side that can accommodate 50 persons. Above the function room is the resto’s VIP Lounge.

Food here is Asian, with items from Korea, Japan, Thailand and the Philippines, like Korean noodles, Bangkok Express, sisig. For the adventurous, there’s exotic food here, too, like crocodile and ostrich. The Bangkok Express is particularly good, not overly spicy. Anthony says he uses French beans for this. Also good are the lobster balls with potato strips and the Blue Elephant fried rice. Another spicy entrée is the Korean noodles with beef. And the ostrich salpicao is a surprise!

Because the view from the roof deck is great, especially of Ayala Center and the mountains beyond, a lot of people wandered to the place without meaning to patronize what it has to offer other than the view. So now, one needs reservations to get there (the number to call is 511-7600). There is also a cover charge of P350 per person for those who opt to eat at the VIP Lounge, and P300 per person for the roof deck. Both cover charges are consumable. After 9 p.m., the cover charge, also consumable, is P250 per person for the VIP Lounge and P200 for the roof deck. For those who merely want to drink, there is a bar both at the roof deck and at the VIP Lounge.

Apple One Sky Lounge by Blue Elephant has an elevator for its exclusive use and is open from 5 p.m. till midnight daily except on Fridays and Saturdays when it close at 1 a.m.

Ostrich is yummy.  Had it for the first time in Lima.  We're even considering raising ostrich when we move to the Philippines.  Just have to source where we can buy several ostriches to start with.

Not sure about where to go in Toronto but we have several ostrich farms in the Niagara area. And yes - they are fantastic for eating! Let me know when and where you get set up in the Philippines!

I was really hoping to source them in the Philippines.

It will be just under 5 years before we make the move, and if we do start an ostrich farm, it will be in Marinduque.

And you would be welcome Bob!

Now to get back on topic - how about that CN Tower revolving restaurant?
