Call me bubba Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Very little information on this as yet: http://www.smh.com.au/national/dfat-confirms-death-of-perth-man-rodney-chambers-in-philippines-20140129-31llb.html here is the story as sometimes the link is not accessible or some may have a slow connection, lets hope the AUS government will provide assistance /knowledge on how to prosecute who ever is responsible. what do i mean? the harry/jane doyle case. The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade says it's providing consular assistance to the family of an Australian man found dead in the Philippines. Perth man Rodney Chambers, 58, was found dead in his hotel room in the city of Lapu-Lapu on Saturday, according to media reports. He was reportedly less than a week into a three-week holiday in the city that's located in Cebu province, a hub for tourists. Mr Chambers' family is said to have been told by Philippine authorities that he was strangled or bashed, and that a woman known to him is in police custody. A DFAT spokesman would only say that the agency was providing assistance to the family. "We can confirm the department is providing consular assistance to the family of a 58-year-old Perth man who died in the Philippines on Saturday," the spokesman said in a brief statement. Mr Chambers' family has urged the public to be cautious about travelling to the Philippines.

BrettGC Posted January 29, 2014 Author Posted January 29, 2014 (edited) Without making broad, sweeping statements, I've found that a lot of the time, the foreigner has done something to piss off the locals in many of these incidents. The Blue Rock Resort assistant manager last year is a good example. Edited January 29, 2014 by BrettGC

Medic Mike Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 Murder tragedy stalks family ALEX MASSEY The West Australian January 29, 2014, 8:40 am Rodney "Kim" Chambers. Picture: Facebook The family of a Perth man allegedly strangled to death in an apartment in the Philippines have described their anguish at learning of his fate via social media. Rodney Kim Chambers, 58, of Wundowie, had been holidaying alone in Lapu-Lapu City, in the Philippines province of Cebu. His body was found by police on Friday. An email sent to Mr Chambers’ family yesterday from the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said a Filipino woman had been arrested over the death and homicide charges filed. Mr Chambers’ former partner Bridget Shewring, the daughter of murdered Perth brothel madam Shirley Finn, said the family realised something was wrong on Saturday when a stranger wrote on Mr Chambers’ Facebook wall. “It said, ‘Any friends or family members of Kim Chambers please contact me on this number’,” she said. “I rang that number but they couldn’t understand me so my sons got on to the embassy and found out (Mr Chambers’ body) was in a funeral parlour over there.” Ms Shewring told 6PR this morning she was devastated by Mr Chambers' death and the tragedy that has stalked her family. She said she had spoken to Mr Chambers just before he left for the Philippines. This was his third trip. "I am devastated. I can't take much more of this pain. I am not getting any answers anywhere," Ms Shewring said. She said she thought the plan was form Mr Chambers' body to be cremated in the Philippines and the ashes returned to WA. She hopes to get more information from the Australian embassy today. On the unsolved murder of her mother, Ms Shewring has previously called for an independent inquiry. Today she said she still hoped that it would be solved. DFAT is providing consular assistance. http://au.news.yahoo.com/thewest/a/21123172/murder-tragedy-stalks-family/
