The written driver's license test is available in Filipino and English.

MikeB. Do you know if it's true that once you've passed the written exam there is no practical driving test?

Now that it looks as though the passport is going to arrive soon I thought I would check on the Lufthansa  flight via Frankfurt that I had found some weeks ago. Lufthansa have stopped flying to Manila!

That only leaves KLM and their long winded, expensive flight via Panama OR wait and try to get a transit visa from the states so that she can go via the USA (much cheaper) but god knows how long that will take and also whether it will be granted.

it's more fun in the phils

Does anyone know of an intelligent travel agent in the phils? I have been told that if an agent arranges two tickets for her with baggage going straight through .... then she will be able to transit in madrid, spain without needing a visa.

According to several sources I found, if it's a new license or the current license is expired by more then 2 years you have to take both written and practical (driving) tests. If you don't have your own car or bike they will rent you one for the test. If you're doing a foreign license conversion to RP license and the current foreign license is valid there are no tests.

In the province I used to live it was well known that the driving tester would get you to drive out of sight of the LTO and then say:  Most people fail their first test and we can continue for 20 minutes before that happens, or you can pass me 500 and I will pass you right now.

So, it's a lience to learn to drive, not a full driving licence? In the UK it's called a provisional driving licence.

I've basically given up on my country providing my wife with a permanent visa, we don't really want to live there anyway but it should be easier for someone who's been happily married for 6 years to get his wife into the uk.... We have more than enough proof and requirements but she has Been denied due to me not going home and getting a good job ( I'm not going to be there without my wife for months on end to prove a point)

On the other hand I worked with a French guy who had a Filipino Girlfriend who flew from England and married her a year after they met 2 months later she has a visa in the uk to live and work...... All due to the wonderful EU!

And yes I am bitter! Any foreigner with reason can gain entry to the uk and bring their partner in but a citizen cannot....... I'll survive here thank you very much

You can take advantage of the "Surinder Singh Court Ruling" which simply means that you and your wife move to an EU country for a few months and obtain that country's Residents' Cards. You can then apply to UKBA for a Family Permit - which it is obliged to grant - and then move to the UK. Your wife will be granted an initial period of stay of 5 years which can be extended (under current legislation). Simples!

This is precisely the mechanism that Brock and his wife Nessa are using and they're currently biding their time in Prague.

But the UK invoked new rules against that such case where it is now harder to use the Surinder Singh Court Ruling to move to UK from another EU country.

The EU doesn't like member states implementing local laws that seek to bypass EU Treaty provisions and the UK tends to lose every case that is brought before the ECJ. There are at least two cases currently before that Court which are likely to result in the new Family Permit provisions introduced recently by the Home Office being ruled illegal. In any event, the new rules shouldn't affect Bootleultras whose primary residence is the Philippines.
