Jollygoodfellow Posted March 8, 2014 Posted March 8, 2014 Been quite sometime since the plane went missing  Consular officials are in contact with the families of six Australians aboard a Malaysian Airlines jet which went missing while flying across the ocean between Malaysia and Vietnam. "Australian consular officials are currently in touch with Malaysian Airlines and with the families of the missing Australian passengers," Senator Brett Mason, parliamentary secretary to the Minister for Foreign Affairs, told reporters in Sydney. If you have concerns about a friend or family member on flight MH370 you can contact Malaysia Airlines on +603 7884 1234 (international call) or The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade’s 24 hour Consular Emergency Centre on 1300 555 135, or +61 2 6261 3305 (international call) "At the moment there is no clarity as to what has occurred. "But can I just add that the families of the seven missing Australian passengers must be desperately concerned and the thoughts of the Australian government and I'm sure all Australians go out to them at the moment." Malaysian Airlines later revised the number of missing Australians down to six. The missing Australians are believed to be three couples. Two of the missing couples are from Brisbane - Rodney and Mary Burrows and Catherine and Robert Lawton who are believed to be friends travelling together. The third couple are believed to have been from Sydney. Senator Mason said he could not offer any further details about the age and gender of the Australians missing aboard flight MH370, which lost contact with Subang Air Traffic Control two hours after it departed Kuala Lumpur at 12.41am local time (3.41am AEDT). The aircraft was bound for Beijing. There has been no request for Australian authorities to join the search and rescue operation. The Xinhua News Agency, citing a local Vietnamese media report, says a Vietnamese search and rescue official reported that the signals have been detected from the plane from about 220 kilometres southwest of Vietnam's southernmost coastal province of Ca Mau. Malaysia Airlines says its Boeing 777-200 carrying 239 people lost contact over the South China Sea early Saturday morning on a flight from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing. The airline confirmed in a press conference this afternoon the 14 nationalities of those who were on the flight, which went missing 5.40am AEDT Rescue teams have been deployed to search for the aircraft, which was due to land at 9.30am AEDT, and the airline's staff is contacting the next of kin of those on board, which included two infants and 12 crew members. As well as the Australians, a spokesman for the airline said those on board included 153 from China, 38 from Malaysia, 12 from Indonesia, three from France, four from the US, two each from New Zealand, Ukraine and Canada, and one each from Russia, Italy, Taiwan, Netherlands and Austria. The flight was piloted by Captain Zaharie Ahmad Shah, a Malaysian aged 53, who joined Malaysia Airlines in 1981 and has 18,365 total flying hours. The first officer was, Fariq Ab Hamid, a 27-year-old Malaysian, who joined the airline in 2007 and has 2763 total flying hours. "We are deeply saddened this morning with the news on (flight) MH370," the airline spokesman said. "There has been speculation that the aircraft has landed at Nanming (in southern China). We are working to verify the authenticity of the report and others." Chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya said: "Our focus now is to work with the emergency responders and authorities and mobilise its full support. "Our thoughts and prayers are with all affected passengers and crew and their family members." The airline's vice president of operations control, Fuad Sharuji, told CNN the plane was carrying about 7.5 hours of fuel when it disappeared. http://news.ninemsn.com.au/world/2014/03/08/15/03/signal-detected-from-missing-plane

Dave Hounddriver Posted March 12, 2014 Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) Maybe it will join this list: This is a list of aircraft, aviators or air passengers who have disappeared in flight for reasons that have never been definitely determined, particularly in cases where the air frame of the aircraft or body of the person has never been recovered. It amazes me that, with so many MANY aircraft that have disappeared into thin air the government still insists that there is no such thing as alien abduction. Never believe anything the government tells you. Fortunately the New York Times is not afraid of mentioning the possibility: . . . there are the folk who think nothing on this planet could have been responsible for something so daring and inexplicable. There were no mayday calls or signs of plane malfunction before the jet went off the radar. A number of people on social media are claiming that such a sudden disapparance could be a sign that extraterrestial life exists. . .
