frederic_BEPH Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 For taxi, we usually take the white one and we make it clear that a single way from airport to Ayala for example is 150-200 max... And as soon u enter your taxi, they even suggest to skip the meter and drive for a fixed priced as they pretend it will be cheaper (which is nearly correct). Ps: I am waiting that the guy from Scam City comes here so I can identify the scams I already had and the others I will avoid :)
Jake Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) Yes I have just checked all of those places out. Just would not mind hearing someone's personal experience with certain places. I read ALL REVIEWS and still, lol, come away scratching my head. Some reviews GLOWING and then others the TOTAL OPPOSITE! Also to the powers that be at this site, for give me, I don't know how or what I did to post this topic twice. Was NOT my intention and don't want to get in trouble already! I didn't notice it until I returned to check for comments. This is a great site and I want to stay!!!!1 :-) Hello Lifeasisrael, You've only been a member less than 2 weeks and you have generated much needed boots on the ground report based on your excellent topic starter. I would also like to visit the Visayan islands and information about where to stay, transportation and traffic noise outside your window is much appreciated. I believe this is the very first post regarding after midnight arrivals at Mactan International airport -- I voted 5 stars for this very informative post and comments. Thank you guys! Since you're from Las Vegas, it is quite apparent you're studying the odds against you by starting your homework nearly two years ago. I hope you will find our little forum to be most helpful. One final note, I would like to suggest studying Google Maps and having an exit plan just in case chit hits the fan. Google maps? Just in case you're left stranded somewhere in the boonies and you need to navigate back to your hotel. And you're butt ass naked....he, he. PS -- don't worry about double posting. Just give it a few more seconds after you hit the Add Reply button. We delete the obvious duplicates. But in my own case, this douche bag tripled post one day. I still have the stretch marks when forum owner Tom (JollyGoodFellow, Boss Man) rode me hard for my mistake. lifeasisrael Posted March 17, 2014 Author Posted March 17, 2014 Yes, this is so good and knowing me I would not mind paying the extra eight dollars for the peace of mind. so I will check into it. Thanks. I've stayed at The Quest and highly recommend it. As others have said its a five minute walk to Ayala Mall which is exactly like any mall in the States. (Except everyone walks really slow...) If I recall, The Quest does have a pickup service. Probably cost you around 500p. A white cab ride will run about 150p. As this is your first time and coming after a long flight and probably half way to zombie land, I'd advise getting the hotel to pick you up. At 500p vs 150p you're looking at $12 v $3.5 for a 20 to 30 minute ride to The Quest. It'll be worth the extra $8 for you peace of mind. (That said, I've never had any problem using the white cabs. But! For my first time I had the hotel collect me.)

jpbago Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 The last time, we needed 2 taxis as there was 6 of us. The yellow taxis wanted P500 flat rate each so we walked across the street to the casino and took 2 white taxis that cost P180 each by meter. With the P640 we saved, the 6 of us had dinner. There is more than one way to skin the cat.
Jake Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 The first time I visited Cebu I was met at the airport by a highly motivated armed guard. Four foot ten 85lbs with an umbrella it was made clear right off she knew how to use it too. She is now my wife and still constantly protecting me for "those other" Filipinas. I could easily imagine your lovely wife cutting off your butterfly wings every now and then. You simply can't go around like a butterfly, going from one flower to the next......he, he. My wife knows how to use her Glock 19 compact, even though she failed her first test to carry a firearm in a local casino. Most of her groupings were in the groin area, instead of center mass.....he, he. Good boy ako -- Jake
Guy F. Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 If you can, you should do a snorkeling trip out to one of the Marine Wildlife Sanctuaries. It's about a 30 minute boat ride. Hiring a boat will cost 2500 to 4000 pesos + equipment rental, but it's spectacular. Boat hire out of the Maribago Blue Water resort on Mactan Island was the most reasonable price available on short notice last time I checked. If you are lucky you can tag along on a dive boat, which would be cheaper, or find someone to share the cost.
davewe Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) Hey there everyone. Well, I am a first time "arrive" in the Philippines on April 17th. I have read EVERYTHING about the Philippines the past year. I know I have visited at least 300 sites, blogs, youtube videos, you name it. Recently I started reading about safety and it seems there is a consensus that you should be very careful at night and some even suggests staying in at night. So my question is; I arrive in Cebu April 17th at 11:50 PM. What should I do first? I know look for the white Taxi but I would guess that area is safe? I should go straight to hotel I would guess as well, right? I have NOT secured my lodging just yet. Working on so that this weekend. There are SO MANY places and the girl I am coming to meet is actually in Bacolod but I wanted some time to myself first for a few days. someone over at another blog (clears throat) suggested a place like Mercedes Hotel for a couple of nights if I just wanted to make sure I have a place until I can actually see where I wish to be. So any advice on safety coming in so late? Should I be concerned? Mercedes Hotel ok, in ok area? Any other suggestions about that? and one more thing is there some difference between Cebu and Cebu CITY? Why do I hear Cebu CITY is polluted and yet I constantly hear great things about "CEBU?" Seems confusing. Thanks in advance guys..........and gals if any. lifeasisrael. :-) I am arriving at 12:05 the night before - actually 12:05AM on the 16th, so 2 days before. Remember that by the time you go through immigration and get your bags and such it will be 1:00AM and you will be dead tired. So I stay at the Waterfront. Done this many times. You can walk there in a couple minutes, avoid the taxis and be in bed in 10 minutes. It's $70 on Agoda, meaning 80 when you add the taxes, but it's always worth it to me. Of course if you will be wanting a place for days you might bite the bullet and stay near Ayala. I am traveling with my wife and no way she wants to take a cab and be wandering the City after 24 hours in the air. In my experience the airport pick up services are fine and might be worth the extra pesos but every time I have used one I waited 15-20 minutes, which at 1:00 in the AM did not make me happy. One more reason to choose the Waterfront. If you do this option, remember to book Waterfront Airport NOT Waterfront Cebu :) Edited March 17, 2014 by davewe
frosty (chris) Posted March 17, 2014 Posted March 17, 2014 Question Its been awhile since I flew into Cebu. The last time I was there no taxis were allowed in the international arrivals area. Someone would call a taxi up when needed. Has this changed? I came in January, mind you arrived at midday, walked out the door after customs, was half a dozen people waiting for a taxi, had an attendent there, white cabs, used the meter, waited maybe 2 minutes, off we went, no problems.
Guy F. Posted March 18, 2014 Posted March 18, 2014 Waterfront is quiet even though it's very near the airport. It has an excellent breakfast buffet. The TripAdvisor website is an excellent source of information.
