Call me bubba Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 I would make other comments but I have in the past kept them CLEAN and respectful. This time,,, all i can say I am OUTRAGED & wish this woman the worst in her life , A crying newborn was muzzled with a strip of tape by nurses at a Philippines maternity ward, an outraged father claims. New dad Ryan Noval posted pictures to Facebook showing his son, Yohannes Noval, sleeping with the strip smushed across his upper lip and across both his cheeks. Another snapshot shows the boy, at just five days old, wailing away as the tape begins to come off his face. Noval claims his wife, Jasmine, returned to the nursery Friday evening to find the baby gagged with tape at the Cebu City hospital. “This is not even close to being professional or humane,” the furious father wrote on Facebook. “Jasmine immediately asked the attending nurse ‘why is there tape over his mouth?’ and the reply she got from the nurse was ‘your baby was TOO NOISY (crying) so I put that over his mouth….’” The new mother found the baby had wet his diaper, something the nurse hadn’t checked, Noval wrote. Jasmine asked the woman to remove the tape but was told “you can go ahead and take it off yourself, ma’am.” The nurse eventually relented and did it herself, ripping off some of the child’s lip skin as she pulled off the sticky strip. The pair complained about the incident to the information desk, and an investigation into the incident, first reported by The Sun newspaper, is said to be underway at the Cebu Maternity Hospital. “Meet my son Yohannes Noval!! He cannot speak about his horrific experience from the attending nurse's hands inside Maternity Hospital's nursery..... so we have to speak out for him,” Noval wrote in his posting, alongside four pictures of the alleged abuse. “If you think your new born babies are safe, think again. Your babies could be silent victims and you will never really know about it!!!” http://www.nydailynews.com/news/world/outrage-nurse-tapes-shut-newborn-mouth-stop-crying-article-1.1789614 here is the local article, and i will post 1 part that TRUELY makes me... well you decide ? A Facebook post of a father went viral after he posted photos of his newborn baby whose lips were sealed with tape while inside a nursery room at a private hospital in Cebu City. According to Ryan Noval, his wife discovered that a nurse taped his newborn son's lips when she visited him at the nursery last Friday. "My son cannot speak about this horrific experience from the attending nurse's hands so we have to speak out for him," Noval posted on his Facebook page. Noval said the nurse told his wife that she had to tape the baby's mouth because the latter was crying non-stop and was already creating too much noise. Noval said when his wife asked the nurse to remove the tape, the latter allegedly replied, ''You can go ahead and take it yourself ma'am." Noval and his wife immediately filed a complaint against the nurse. They are still waiting for the result of an investigation. ABS-CBN News tried to get the side of the hospital but was told the investigation was still ongoing and the head nurse was on her day off. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- **Noval and his wife immediately filed a complaint against the nurse. Call me bubba Posted May 13, 2014 Author Posted May 13, 2014 after i posted here is the news from Cebu on this "story" The Department of Health-7 that said they will conduct a separate investigation regarding the incident in the Cebu Puericulture Center and Maternity House, Inc. where a nurse "allegedly" sealed a newborn baby’s lips with plaster. DOH-7 Regional Director Jaime Bernades said this is the first time he heard of a case like this. “Dili na mi maghulat (for the formal complaint from the parents) kay duna na man tay reports na ingon ana. Then, fact-finding lang naman,” said Bernades. He added that a formal complaint from the parents will only be needed if they will be soliciting written affidavits on the case. The fact-finding committee will be made-up of representatives from the quality assurance and regulations arm of the agency. “These are all allegations so we have to investigate muna. For now, it is enough to send our team and ask for what is the situation, what are the facts, and everything will be given in a report,” he said. The maternity hospital’s medical director Raida Varona said there is no need for the involvement of the DOH. “Why DOH? It’s the problem of the hospital,” Varona said.(reading that last sentence is scary) Bernades said even though his office was not asked to investigate, he will still send a team to look into the incident because he is still mandated to keep track of situations such as this. “Ang ato man is, there is a situation that calls for an interest in behaviors and practices that will also entail a review from an agency that takes care of, or that promotes, quality service regulation of health facilities. And that is the Department of Health,” Bernades said. Bernades also said giving pacifiers to infants and children is “not advisable, per se” as these are possible sources of contamination. Preliminary statement The hospital said they are still investigating the incident. “We’re doing a deeper investigation on the matter and for sure, we’ll come up with something,” said Varona, adding the hospital will finish this as quickly as they can. When asked who would be investigated, she said everyone on duty in the nursery at that time. She also said sealing the baby’s mouth with tape is not NOT NORMAL procedure. “Gagging? No, there’s no such thing as gagging. This is not a protocol,” she told reporters. Varona also told reporters that the hospital officials are ready to talk with the parents of the baby, Ryan and Jasmine Badocdoc. The couple is also willing to cooperate in the hospital’s investigation. “Absolutely we will. We have been waiting for them to contact us actually since they have our contact number,” Ryan said. Ryan said he is hoping his baby, which is still admitted in the same hospital due to an infection, will be released after a week. Both Cebu City Mayor Michael Rama and Cebu Governor Hilario Davide III condemned the act of sealing the baby’s mouth. “A baby’s cry is music to the ears,” Rama said. ( could it be as the baby is a future voter to enhance /his/your career) “Let the child cry. Nine months siya sud sa womb sa iyang mother, the child has to be allowed to emote. Kung tinuod man gani na’ng giingon nga gi-tape-an, di gyud na tarong,” said Davide. The Children’s Legal Bureau earlier warned of the hospital’s possible violation of laws protecting children. Similar offense may also be leveled against the offender for violating Presidential Decree 603 (Child and Youth Welfare Code), Republic Act 7610 (Special Protection of Children against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act), and RA 9262 (Violence against Women and Children). — http://www.philstar.com/cebu-news/2014/05/13/1322558/doh-probe-taping-lips
robert k Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 That is scary. Investigation of something like that with photographic evidence should not take an entire day, any more time is just planning for the spin.

the_whipster Posted May 13, 2014 Posted May 13, 2014 it is the total norm in the Philippines for mothers to give birth sharing a small bed with another woman. Sometimes they can even be 3 or 4, to a bed. actually, international observers usually say how struck they are how harmonious maternity wards are in the Philippines, considering how crowded the conditions are. Yet another case of them just accepting what would be to westerners, the unnacceptable.
