Crime In The Philippines

Some months ago I saw statistics concerning killed by crime, sorted into nationalities, but I have forgot where I saw it. In this forum?

there are miles more Asian than westerner foreigners, in the Philippines, at any one time. Miles more. I would suggest half as much many again. Like a 2 to 1 majority. Which is an absolute, total thumping majority.

 

just why, are Asians likely to be less likely to be victims of crime, if that is what you are making out, than westerners are, when there are so many more of them?

To make a fair comparing it's needed to count PER PERSON, so if Asian foreigners are double as many as westerners, they need to be victims double as many crimes to be EQUAL.

 

Some Japanese tourists can be spoted miles away    :)     while it can be harder to see difference between some other Asian tourists/expats and Filipins. We westerners are much easier to spot by colors and LENGTH.

 

With that in mind, I guess it's significant biger risk for a westerner.

I'm talking about when both Asians and Westerners stay out of being criminals themselves.

you just don't see them. It is all about your perception.  What happens is, you see a guy from Singapore driving his Thai girl on a motorbike past you in Udon Thani, and you think it is two Thais. That Singapore, or the Korean or the Japanese guy, masquerades as a Thai. When if it was a westerner and a Thai girl, you would spot it straight away.

But I suppouse it don't only depend of look, it depend of ACTIONS too.   As for them being criminals, but also biger risk if being drunk in a rough part of a city    :mocking:     

Not odd if some Filipins get grumpy at kanos, who act as kings, "steal" beautiful Filipinas and spread money...  :mocking:

 

Some Swedes I know, have lived long time among Filipins without ever being threathened or robbed,

just some "kano prices", but not even that from them, who know them, where they are regular customers...  One food cart owner even said after a while, after the Swede had chat some with him each time he had bought from him regularly:

-I will stop asking higher price from you.

I suppouse it depend of they LIVE AMONG the Filipins and SOCIALIZE with them, instead of separate from the common natives e g by living in gated subdivisions...   Two of theese Swedes even assist work among the Filipins at farms sometimes.

 

But an other "kano" (=puti) - I don't remember who - told he got BAD reaction when he assisted builders to unload from a lorry!  They saw it as he "stole" their work, although they got the pay anyway  :lol:

you're saying that some people's superiority attitude upon coming to a poorer country will make him walk around

like his chit don't stink??  And with that said, are you proposing that white man's ass will be victimized more??

 

If this is a battle of ideas, bring it on......but please refrain from abstract writing or ideas that are willy nilly to the

wind -- my Englesh es nut dat gud.  And besides that, my calculator is still calculating your thought process.....

criminals are not so stupid. They know about the 2 to 1 Asian majority of foreigners in the Philippines, just like everybody else does. They are not going to make, too much of a distinction.

It maybe that we (westerners) tend to  be in places that bad things may happen. You know bars, bordelois, and such at odd hours like 3-4AM, alone instead of with a group. Drinking beer and chasing tail in the middle of the night in a bad neighborhood,  what could go wrong. Besides tall white men are rich, that is why you rob them, like Dillenger and banks. This is not an injunction or condemnation I like many others am immortal, till I die.

'locals' will have more trouble spotting Asian foreigners on a bike whizzing past with a Singaporean driver and a pinay on the back, but they will do better, than we will. And if they are close enough to hear them conversing in English, which they will be, then it will be totally obvious that the Asian guy is a rich foreigner even if they cannot tell from visual clues alone.

 

Asians like Japanese and Koreans, etc, can be equally rich to white people, they also can stay out late in bars. I am not much of a casino person, but the odd times I have been in casinos in Asia the Asian foreigners there did not outnumber westerners by the standard 2 to 1 you see in most places, but more like 5 to 1.

 

Asians in the Philippines are there for the exact same reasons as westerners. For the girls, mostly and for other inexpensive entertainment. However their numbers pad up because more of them have legit jobs like in Japanese corporations and as students like Koreans.

My point was white are much easier to spot, making it more risky. You said it YOURSELF   :)  it can be hard to see difference between Asian expat/tourist and the natives. I suppouse it's harder for criminals too  :)

yes, but it is not as difficult for Filipino criminals to spot Asian foreigners as it is for us. And besides, I know I can usually spot a Japanese or Korean in a crowd. They look quite different, than most people around them and if there is more than one of them, like two or more, they stand out even more. I'm sure Filipinos can spot them even better. Koreans and Japanese are not south east Asians like Malays and Vietnamese, etc are and they don't usually look anything like them.

yes, but it is not as difficult for Filipino criminals to spot Asian foreigners as it is for us. And besides, I know I can usually spot a Japanese or Korean in a crowd.

Didm't you say OPPOSITE in an other thread, where I said it's possible?   :lol:       

(But here I say it's harder than spoting a white.)
