Medic Mike Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 A 44-YEAR-OLD businesswoman was shot dead on a tricycle under the flyover in Maguikay, Mandaue City last Friday night. Police investigators said an unidentified gunman approached the woman, identified as Imelda Tio Yu, and shot her in the chest past 6 p.m. Yu was the manager of the Sun Gold Enterprises in Subangdaku, Mandaue City, according to the police. The firm sells home and office furniture. The bullet exited from her right hip and hit the driver, identified as Roger Calumba, in the hip. The gunman fired a second time and hit another passenger, identified as Arnel Juanite, in the knee. Motive The president of the Mandaue Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) yesterday called on Mayor Jonas Cortes to act immediately in solving the attack. “We need to know the motive (of the killing), whether it’s personal or business, and why the perpetrators took the law into their hands. It’s very alarming,” said Philip Tan. Tan owns Well Made Corp. and also serves as district secretary of the Rotary International District 3860. He suggested that if the Philippine National Police (PNP) cannot solve the crime immediately for one reason or another, the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and other law enforcement and investigation agencies must help. The victims were taken to the Mandaue City District Hospital around 6:50 p.m. But Yu, who was hit in her chest, was declared dead a few minutes past 8 p.m., while Calumba and Juanite were transferred to the Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center in Cebu City. SPO3 Marcos Noval Jr. of the Mandaue City Police Office Investigation and Detection Management Branch said they suspect that the culprit, who fled on a motorcycle, was a hired killer. He declined to disclose more details about the suspect, whom they continue to search for. Daily routine “We are looking at some angles, but we can’t divulge these for now,” Noval said in a phone interview, adding that he and other investigators have yet to talk at length with the victim’s family members. Investigators said that Yu, who lived in Maguikay, left her office in Subangdaku past 5 p.m. and rode a jeepney to Maguikay. She stopped at a satellite market near the flyover, located at the corner of M.C. Briones and A.C. Cortes, and bought some vegetables, as was reportedly her routine. She then rode the tricycle, occupying the seat behind the driver. The tricyle was temporarily stopping under the flyover to pick up passengers when the attack happened. Noval said Yu was seated between the driver and another passenger. The tricycle had six passengers. A witness saw the gunman ride a black XRM motorcycle driven by another man, said Noval. They drove off on A.C. Cortes St. Police recovered a slug and an empty shell from a .45 pistol and the victim’s pouch, which contained a few coins, money bills and bits of paper. Robbery ruled out Noval said the victim was not bringing a phone or any other valuables, leading them to discount robbery as the motive of the killing. Investigators had to call a phone number written on a piece of paper found inside the pouch to identify the victim. The number turned out to be that of one of the victim’s employees. Her body was submitted for autopsy. Family members told investigators it had been the victim’s routine to commute in going home, dropping by the market near the flyover to buy some groceries. “We hope to give justice to the victim and we don’t want this case to be part of the unsolved killings in Cebu. That’s why I am calling on Mayor Cortes, the NBI and other groups to focus on this case,” Tan said. http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/local-news/2014/05/25/fatal-ambush-344606 The saddest part of the story is that the victims had to go to two of the worst hospitals in Cebu :(. If you think Vicente is bad, you should see Lapu Lapu District...OMG!
Medic Mike Posted May 25, 2014 Author Posted May 25, 2014 Cops arrest ‘accomplice,’ gunman of Yu still at large THE alleged driver of the motorcycle ridden by the gunman who shot a businesswoman in Mandaue City was arrested by the police last Saturday afternoon. A team from the Mandaue City Police Office (MCPO) caught the suspect, identified as David Llanto, 35, a resident of Barangay Mantuyong, Mandaue City, at the old public market around 5 p.m. Llanto, detained at the Police Station 2 in Barangay Subangdaku, denied any involvement in the crime, Noval said. “But he was positively identified by two police officers who were there during the shooting,” SPO3 Marcos Noval Jr. of the MCPO Investigation and Detection Management Branch told Sun.Star Cebu. Noval said a .38 revolver loaded with five bullets was recovered from Llanto. Imelda Tio Yu, 44, the manager of the Sun Gold Enterprises branch in Barangay Subangdaku, Mandaue City, died after an unidentified gunman shot her while she was riding a tricycle under the flyover in Barangay Maguikay past 6 p.m. last Friday. Yu, who sustained a gunshot wound in her chest, died at the Mandaue City District Hospital past 8 p.m. The tricycle driver and another passenger were also wounded in the shooting. The police are still searching for the gunman, identified only as Ongod. Noval said a cartographic sketch of the gunman may be made. The police have yet to establish the motive of the killing, and whether someone hired the suspects to kill the businesswoman. “As of now, it is hard to link anyone else to the crime,” he said in a phone interview. Investigators discounted robbery as the motive as the victim, a resident of Maguikay, did not have valuables with her, not even a phone, during the incident. Yu, who reportedly used to commute, was on her way home after buying some groceries at a market in Maguikay. The gunman and his driver fled on board a black XRM motorcycle. Noval said two police officers were in the area but they were unable to fire a warning shot since they were concerned about the safety of the people in the area. They were also unable to chase the suspects, as they attended to the victims first. Noval said that the police officers and Llanto even had a friendly chat prior to the shooting. The police are preparing a case for murder with multiple physical injuries against LLanto and the gunman http://www.sunstar.com.ph/cebu/local-news/2014/05/25/cops-arrest-accomplice-gunman-yu-still-large-344722
