Hike, Bike And Camp

ADVENTURE here comes in three forms: hiking, biking and camping. A 12- hectare development nestled in the rolling terrain of Balamban, Canso X is the latest addition of outdoor leisure destinations in Cebu.

The name is short for Cansomoroy, the barangay in which the property is located, and X presumably for extreme—a challenge and shout-out to all who wish to get out of their comfort zone and have an exciting experience with nature’s wonders.

Canso X is roughly 45 minutes away from the city when passing through the Transcentral Highway. It’s hard to miss it; signage posts with kilometer marks can be seen en route starting from Nivel Hills and upon reaching the park, guests will be greeted with its signature “hike, bike, camp” icons.

Quite remarkable about Canso X is that there are a lot of activities for everyone, young and old alike, to look forward to. Adrenaline junkies will enjoy the off-road bike track or the hiking trail, while those who prefer to just sit and relax and can easily stay in one of the kiosks in the main area to enjoy the lush and breezy surroundings.

The main area has a resto that serves local delicacies such as barbecue, bibingka, puto and sikwate, and then right beside it is a mini obstacle course and playground for the kids. At the far-most end of the property—connected by the hiking trail and bike track—is the campsite that’s equipped with restroom and campfire area, and a river that will soon be open for trekking.

Canso X was formally launched last April 11, coinciding with the 1st Canso X Multi-Sports Festival, a two-day celebration that had a cross-country mountain bike race, off-road duathlon, trail run, kiddie run, bike clinic, music festival and sunset yoga session.

The park is a project of AboitizLand and Cebu Industrial Park and Developers, who stated the development is the two organizations’ contribution to promoting a healthy lifestyle and love for the natural environment among all Cebuanos.

I am going to have to check this place out on my next trip. :)

There are several places east of Metro Manila in the Sierra Madre foothills offering similar recreational activities. A unique offering is military style jungle survival. Another is off-the-road obstacle course for four-wheel vehicles. They are popular for weekenders and corporate "team building" programs. One place could accommodate 500 in dormitory style bunk beds.

European trekkers have also discovered the area for inexpensive activities like river rafting, hiking, wall climbing and cave exploration.

Since I primarily hang around the Cebu region, I am looking forward to having a look at the new Cebu attraction :).

I am curious to learn more about the Cebu attraction since it was designed and built as a corporate project. Keep us informed especially as to how they charge.
