You just got promoted to Sergeant Major -- thank you for your tribute! Respectfully -- Jake
Mike S Posted May 28, 2014 Posted May 28, 2014 (edited) Now that I can see again I can post here .... not sure just how I missed these posts but chit happens I guess .... years ago I had found a post entitled "Dear Dad" about a son thanking his father for giving his life in the war so that he (the son) could be free .... but through time or perhaps bad memory I have lost it .... did a Google search but so far it has turned up nada ..... but here is one that I thought appropriate for posting here even if it is a bit after Memorial day .... in which case I couldn't post anything anyway thanks to Globe ..... I'm going to extend this to ALL SERVICE PERSONAL that lost their lives in the line of duty to their respective countries ..... I salute you .... Freedom Is Not Free - by Kelly Strong - - I watched the flag pass by one day.It fluttered in the breeze.A young Marine saluted it,and then he stood at ease. - I looked at him in uniformSo young, so tall, so proud,He'd stand out in any crowd.I thought how many men like himHad fallen through the years. - How many died on foreign soil? How many mothers' tears? How many pilots' planes shot down? How many died at sea?How many foxholes were soldiers' graves? -No, freedom isn't free. - I heard the sound of TAPS one night,When everything was stillI listened to the bugler playAnd felt a sudden chill. - I wondered just how many timesThat TAPS had meant "Amen,"When a flag had draped a coffinOf a brother or a friend. - I thought of all the children,Of the mothers and the wives,Of fathers, sons and husbandsWith interrupted lives. - I thought about a graveyardAt the bottom of the seaOf unmarked graves in Arlington. - No, freedom isn't free. It ain't just about this ......... it's about this Edited May 28, 2014 by Mike S
